First time to France, and really lost in where to go first. It be nice to land and spend a couple of days finding our feet and regrouping.

Ideally, I prefer a municipal site rather than a Aire, as I may wish to spend more than one night before moving on.

So any good municipals anyone can recommend prefer near to the coast and with nice walks and not too far from Calais, but happy to drive a hour or two

Also like to know of any good Aires as well.

ok, Well I have got a pretty extensive list of Aires and Municipals in the SatNav.

So, as you say, will fall over one.

Hi Benimar******
We never book anything and we find that we always fall over a municipal site or latterly Aire's.
The best ones, we have found by accident:cool::D

Take a look at Motorcaravan Sites Review as he has photgraphed MANY aires that he's visited. Thanks to him we stopped at Millery (between Metz & Nancy) right on the banks of the R. Moselle, and like Garth has said on the way home we got as far as Mons and searched the sat nav and ended up in a little village Bevay on an Aire.

Just STAY AWAY from the Aires on motorways/A roads! Our friends who should have known better were broken into whilst asleep, luckily their dog barked and woke them up; but they still lost a laptop and a wallet!

Just back from Normandy, A few aires,Le Portel at Boulogne has had a revamp and is now barriered with a card paying €4 charge ,about 30 places and very quiet.Le Touquet-Paris plage €11 for an upmarket aire.Honfluer €9 inc elect and a very pleasant seafood town,Trouville/Douville the aire has only about half a dozen places but free for 24 hours with electric, also possible to park on quayside as were a hundred or so vans(no picknicking).great beach and many eateries. One motorway aire i used (wouldnt normally recommend motorway)and felt very safe with dedicated parking for caravan /camper and themed round the wildlife was La Baie de Somme bay of somme tourism holiday travel France family beach nature week end baie de somme on the a16 paige just before Abbeville. If you fancy a trip down to Versailles try Versailles association Camp P.A.J ,Allee de Matelots, 78000 Versailles cost you €7 per person with toilets and showers but its only a five min walk and your in the park at Versailles then thro the park to the Palace (20 mins).
