Good moaning, I am spooking to you...

I'm sitting on Cannock Chase surrounded by maps, guide books and French phrase books. I speak French and German, enough to get around, but haven't used either for about four years, so I need to get back up to speed. I can think in German, or at least I used to be able to, but hadn't used French since I was at college until I went to France. Amazingly I'd remembered enough to get around, possibly because my French teacher wore a mini skirt, so I'd listened to everything she had to say. I know a lot of English people tend to speak English when they are abroad VERY LOUDLY, as though volume will overcome their linguistic shortcomings, but I think it's rude to visit another country and not make some attempt to understand and speak their language.

So if my next few posts are in French or German, I haven't lost it...just making sure I don't accidentally order the landlord's daughter instead of coffee.
Au revoir, Jean
