golf cart battery

any one used a golf cart battery as a leisure battery?

Ive seen a 150A/h one at a good price and Im tempted, it weighs in at 38Kg and the only down side I can see is that I would have to change the terminals on my wiring

Yes I know that I would probably be better getting a proper' leisure battery but choices here are few and Im not a fan of paying an arm a leg and a kidney to get one frieghted over!

I am NOT a battery expert

But it would seem to me to be a good bet.
Built for moderate use (Ie not cranking) and also for discharging and recharging as part of their daily use.
Also @ 150 AH should never go to low.
I GUESS the same would go for a mobility scooter battery

Someone on here will KNOW a bit more

Be careful its not a six volt gel battery as carts charge 8 batterys at 48v,if 12v and lead acid then your on board charger should be ok.

I have very limited space but did find room for a small gel golf trolley battery. I just use it’s own charger when on hook up so it is independant from all other electrics.

definately 12V but I cant find anything on the spec sheet that definately says 'wet' or 'lead acid' but then it doesnt say 'gel' or 'AGM' either!
although elsewhere another make but with the same model number and description is described as being 'lead acid'

Should be fine, good luck with it.

Double check the one you get is suitable, some of the guys in trike club fitted them until one blew apart, wasn’t meant to take the charge from the alternator. I don’t know which ones they used but definitely not as big as the one you mention. Check how it should be charged

My mobility scooter takes a low but long slow charge, would not take power from alternators so you would need hookup to charge them

I thought that the 'rule of thumb' for recharging all lead acid batteries was stated amp/hourage divided by 5 (in this case 150/5=30amps)

any idea was to why some lead acid batteries demand a slower charge rate?

I think the batteries I meant that were used on trikes were gel not lead acid, completely sealed and orange, post office used them for those electric hand truck I think. Were sourced from post office anyway I believe.

I don’t know what type my mob scooter are as they are in an enclosure and I have never actually seen the batteries

Just had a look and the batteries in my scooter are completely sealed AGM 17ah. I can’t see why it has to take a low charge though

10% so 100ah charge max 10 amps

Some makers said they can be fast charged but i found that if there gel filled and you charge to fast the jelly buns of the plates and they dry out and stop charging,so slow charge slow release of power which is fine for led lamps etc.

I have the daily use of any of 3 Club car Golf buggies, & This one is mine as it’s a Tipper.

I use it Daily during my 11HRs shift, & it’s got 6 of Thease Batteries

When I plugged it in on charge @ 16:00 (finnished with it & Coffee break) it can start at 18amp then fall as it charges, I took this pic at 19:00 as I finished for the day.

150ah 12v golf cart battery will be a T1275
No its a "Global" CG2 1275
Continental also make a CG2 1275 (with similar description)

A Trojan T1275 at Tayna is about £30 more than the Global (plus delivery of £62)

It will be GC2 (Golf Cart). T1275 just refers to the sizing.

Providing it has been cared for it will be good. The battery box will require some form of venting though.
