going to Scotland

Hello everyone. I'm a new member and although we have been motorhoming for a good few years now, we've always stayed on registered sites. However, we're off to Scotland on Wednesday, we're staying at Edinburgh for a couple of nights to visit our son, but thought we'd explore Scotland for a week or so afterwards. We've felt for a while that the cost of sites was extortionate, as we only use the showers (just to save cleaning ours!), but we thought we'd try to see the real Scotland. We've also got a big dog, so we hope we'll be safe enough! Does anyone have any tips, both on safety and places to visit and stay? Thanks

I am very inexperienced with wild camping and I don't like to stay in way out on your own places. I always like to have someone around. I feel happier in staying in towns and seaside villages but then again that is my preference. We only have done a bit of Scotland as we bought our van there but we do mostly NI.

Hi and welcome to the club - You can find loads of info on the Scotland forum on this site and as you are new and not used to the site I have given you the link. Scotland - Wild Camping for Motorhomes enjoy Scotland and have a safe trip. If you need more help just ask and somebody will be along shortly.

Dont believe "Sagart" when he says they gave up eating people a few years ago - its a lure to get you over to Skye because they are short of food. Ha Ha

We gave up eating people a few years ago and we do have electricity up here now.
Best advice is to trawl the Scottish section of this site for the areas you are interested in, then I am sure you will get help from members.

I dont believe you.

Hi and welcome to the site. You will not be dissapointed with wilding in Scotland.
I recently completed a 6 week spell at a cost of around £12 in site fees:D well I had to visit Glenffidich so went on a C&CC temporary site at the distillery:cool: and a couple of quid at Sheildig to fill up the water tank and rest for the day.
Enjoy your trip, read about the various wilding spots in the forum pages. East coast or west coast, you will be spoiled for choice.

Happy Camping:)

Drat...the secret ingredient in Stornaway Marag Dubh has been revealed

Scotland

We usually have plenty of luck finding somewhere if We go to Forestry Commission parking areas.

Always park discreetly, out of view of houses.

Farm sites and temporary sites are a cheap way of topping up with water.

Look at Forestry Commission Scotland and check sites in your area.
Son 2 works for them and the rules are: don't block a gate...respect warning signs...keep off timber stacks...don't leave litter and don't use trail(motor) bikes on the tracks
