On our travels around Scotland and we went down Glen Orchy (B8074) to the carpark which we have been to before. However it now has a 2.3m height barrier. So we couldn’t even stop for a picnic. One more bites the dust as they say.

Surely not the one overlooking the village, the one with the burger van:mad1:
seamus.

The large grassy one with the footbridge over the Orchy. The Loch Tulla viewpoint is still ok Seamus. A height barrier won’t stop the tenters sh1tting all over the place.

Came across the signs of the tenters 2 years ago when I ventured down to the grassy one next to the footbridge, nearly put me off wildcamping for life.
Now just use the poi behind the hotel or loch Tulla where I stopped last weekend on my return from the West Coast.
Thankfully I find the higher up the coast I venture the signs of the tenters recedes.

Please can you check the online POI Map and confirm if it is one of those locations that is affected?

Thanks ...

There is only one CR in Glen Orchy. The large grassy one with the footbridge and height barrier. Why remove it from the poi? I can still use it in my VW T5 and I’m sure other members with similar vehicles would like to use it

Thanks for the clarification.

There are no POI locations, as far as I'm aware, that have height barrier restrictions.

It has been a basic principle since the POI system was implemented that all the places should be accessible by motorhomes and camper vans. There are some places that are restricted by virtue of weight or length constraints but a very small percentage of the whole.

In addition the installation of a height barrier is a clear indication that overnight usage by our type of vehicle is not welcome.

I am sorry to hear that the tenters are leaving obvious mess and you can fully understand why the locals would want it stopped

It’s definitely the carpark in Glen Orchy, the others are just pull ins. The co ordinates are 56.434285,

-4.86824

Glen Etive is another one I avoid. Tents, sleeping bags, pillows you name it I’ve come across it just dumped and left to rot.
