There was a recent post regarding the wilding at the big car park in Giverny and I said that we would be staying there this week sometime. It's shut until Easter, sorry for the misinformation.

No, but it was not our intention either, it was just a convenient stop over on our way to the Somme , which is where we are now. Everywhere there is closed until the Easter weekend. Then the Japanese invade!!!!

oop's

Winks qouted in the other post that he'd bought his ticket for the garden didn't say when he was going though

Tickets for the tunnel and Giverny booked and payed for in the last half hour.:

But say's opens Monet's Gardens and House are now closed for winter. Reopening March 23rd, 2018 on their web site

Thanks for that, I was making an assumption based on the notice posted at the main car park, silly me.

OK You can use it on the way back but I don't expect the gardens will be much this early in the year

Just had one hell of a drive to stop here and it's all locked up and height barriers on the other car park. I could've cried! At least I've got a lot of the driving out of the way for Dieppe or Calais ... Rouen tomorrow

Sorry Carol, we are on a campsite on the Somme, just a few klicks from Albert, for a couple of nights near Peronne

Hey, hope it didn't sound like I was blaming anyone! The drive was horrendous - think I must have been on the Paris ring road for part of the way - came from Briere, expecting a gentle run! My friend's satnav conked out again so I was leading which is always an extra pressure I think.

That brings back memories Carol.

Few years back, we were taking a boat down to the Med and stopped at Vernon for the night. It was late afternoon when we tied up, so decided it was a good opportunity to see the gardens before we set off again the next day. We walked bliddy miles (or it seemed it!) to Giverny and when we got there the gardens were all locked up, so we walked more bliddy miles back to the boat and drowned our sorrows in grape juice.

p.s. I've ordered some better weather for when you grace our shores again - safe trip.

This is a proposed stop on my way south next month and very interesting. Do you think there was a reason for barrier being down?

Yup, it's to keep the ethnics out !!! Truly though it's just for the close season, it'll be open again Easter weekend. The gate is open from 8 am to 8pm, then you are locked in until morning, but it is only a few minutes walk via the underpass into the village.

Thanks very much Carol, now really looking forward as we were waiting until after Easter before leaving UK. Have a safe journey and thanks again.
