Getting water

Hi there,

We are currently setting up our van so we can avoid having to stop at campsites at all. We've just put in two 6v golf cart batteries to give us 225ah (we move around regularly so they are always topped up) and extra water carriers as our tank is only 45 litres, but does any one have any tips at finding water while out and about?

garages, toilets (use a short bit of hose and a push on connector.)from wash basin ,ha ha, cemetry. pub. drinking fountains in parks. lots of places if you only have say a ten litre container .even cafe,s .plus keep your eyes open for taps near parkeepers huts etc. building sites. hope that gives a start .+get one of those big green bucket things from asda for catching rainwater off your van. we caught rainwater last winter and used natural springs in portugal never touched a tap for 7 weeks. we dont buy drinking water unless its brown in colour and makes you fall down. cheers alan.

In this country you can get water from petrol stations, supermarket petrol stations usually have an outside tap. Cemeteries have a water tap if you get desperate. Some times some toilets at car parks might have a tap you can use. We have a Pozanni filter fitted so we could almost use any water as it takes any taste out of the water & removes nearly all of the harmful bacteria. If you travel abroad then you can get water easily.

Thats true Kontiki, I find myself repeating to my wife all the time, "this wouldn't be a problem on the continent!". It's amazing how motorhome un friendly Britain is compared to the rest of Europe.

its only unfriendly if you let it be. i never seem to have many probs here .except maybe the weather. can always find a place to park for the night but maybe not quite where you would like it to be. stealthis the answer .not too big a windows and look not like a camper. the busier the place the easier it is. but still there is some nice quiet places for a night here and there.

Elsen and water

Not to forget, on all navigable rivers and canals have elsen points and water most very near to the road that you could use!
Most can be found online or in river/canal guides, so easily accessable and easy to locate!
