I have a complete German Kathrien Sat system which works perfectly. I want to watch British TV in Spain. I am thinking of getting a Sky digibox. Question is, will I be able to pick up a signal with the Kathrien Sat Dish, or do I have to also change the Dish??

hI, there will be no reason to change the dish, its the box that decodes the signel, I am not to sure if you will get much of a signel very far south with the kathrien dish as its small, I don,t get a lot mind you with a maxiview 66cm dish, so end up with dvds most of the time.

Thanks Terry for the Info; I had the feeling I could use the same dish, and agree with you regards getting programmes as far south In Spain. Will be doing it anyway but will have a load of DVD's handy.

I have just returned, I have a 80cm dish and followed advice re: rotating LNB 28o all to no avail, no telly for a Month. Long termers all had HUGE dishes some over 2 metres and still lost BBC in the evenings. Strangely, many Germans and Dutch were watching TV on small dishes but I never looked into it.

Hi, the germans can pick up a lot more signals then us brits looking for english channels, as most of you will be aware the footprint of the astra 2 satellites is very narrow and aimed at the UK with a bit of overlap that we can pick up sometimes.
I am planning to travel down to Greece later this year and the maxiview dish will be useless, so its the dvd,s and hard drive viewing for us just in case the weather is not to good or we just feel like an easy day.

Which Kathrein dish is it - the flat one? If so I think that you won't have much joy getting British TV in Spain, assuming that you want the channels on Astra 2D (BBC/ITV etc. )
With an 80cm dish you should be able to get the 2D signal around Barcelona, you will need a much bigger dish to get it any further south. The bottom map on this page http://www.astra2d.com/footprint.htm is quite a detailed Astra 2D footprint chart. This site http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html gives info on what channels come from which satellites and there are links to footprint charts too.

Sorry for being thick, does that mean the Germans/Dutch have a different satellite? , if yes, would that work throughout Southern Europe? I ask because I have room for a second dish , any advice gratefully received.

Yes Andyc, it is the flat square type. I am now aware I will be unable to get any part of Spain. Like I said earlier, loading up with DVD's, although I watch very little TV anyway. But thanks to all the folks for their advice.

Hi, re the germans, yes they have their own satellites that their digi boxes can decode, the thing with UK channels is that they all come from a small group of satellites and due to the BBC not wishing anyone in europe watching their rubbish programs without a license the footprint over europe is very small, have a look at the maps linked above you will see the footprints.
It may pay to keep the german box as they show a lot of english films at times.
