Oki I's back! So- ye didn't miss me? Ah so. Well foolks and fellow wilders, I'se bin off the site awhiles.
The rest of this is for wilders who might find it interesting or even helpful!.
So....I was doing litle or nothing messing about with my boats, bikes, Honda etc, in the France/Belgian border area of Flanders( have the use of an empty yard there belonging to a cousin, took a quick trip down to Burgundy to get a few bits and pieces stored there along with my old river boat and then the 600or so back. Suddenly found I was too weak-fatigued-too tired to lift anything (and yes, i was was massively overweight -beware). I could not breathe properley either ,was dizzy etc and so headed straight for emergency at local hospital direct-bypassing gp-always best option.Dumped camper in car park!
Thought I'd be out in a day- 10 days it was-water on lungs and fibrillating heart. (this is chronic with me) . De hospital folk were supern, cured the lung problm and did what could do for heart, given I should have been on warferin to keep blood thin but because that needs constant monitoring...quite imprectible for a 75 yr old wilderconstantly on the hoof-I on massive aspirin dosage ( for info other hearters).
So Veurne hospital was simply superb-no waitingt, no delay, no quibble on production of e 111 INTO BED TOUTE SUITE and consultant care!
Ok after super care, ten aysout and up motorway to Antwerp (with 15 ft yacht in tow) when really dizzy etc etc.
Into first serice area, rested couple hours, not much imporved but a bit so on advice over fon from cousin who knows area, drove on exit for Ghent University Hospital.
Dumped caravanserie in first ossible longwise place to park, rolled into /A&E, instantly nurse, then young doc then she called on cll 24 hrs cardiac and-youve guessed it, stright into bed!
Turned out was rather bad- arterd much blocked to they tst4ed and tested-imposible to how many ytests of all descriptions but you'd hardly get two of the many I got in a decade at home.
Care from a phalanx of docs, super nursing and a operation to unblock the artery proclaimed and executed.
Went a bit wrong it did so another (after many many many scans and tests and consultations among the docs and proffs) problem unearthed and wow-straight to operate and remedy.
Hefty job, they hinted but ok.
So then....wello bit infecti0on so again, super testing, remedies decided and I'm still in here after three weeks of life saving!!!!!
the nly snag to being in my sit is aving no one tor other English text reaqding!o get or fetch tings so I now always keep a special bag- dressing gown, slippers, paymas(x2) and bits and pieces AND WAR AND PEACE
Belgian hospital care is simply marvellous! That everyone in Flanders speaks English is massive help-my French is limited if functional!
I've now been in hospitals (Regensburg, Germany-shingles anfd wice in France (Auxerre and St Florent-one big, t'other small) and the difference between
care and attitudes and the take it or leave it and be grateful you are getting anything at all attiutudes in UK!
So there it is folks- that's how it worked for me and hopefully, my experiences may help others not to worry about roamin' especially if you have a partner-most hospitals will let you stay in the car park if necessary to be near a partner.!
Outcome of ops Ok I hope but best is the huge effort put into finding a drug regime which will allow me to continue wilding and roamin; without having to be attached to anywhere. And tis being a famous eaching hospital, I have the best medical experience and brains working at it for me!
I hope to be out in a couple of days anyone wants to rv I will head straigtht for the Wallse Kai in Antwer and rest my caravanserie awhiles! It is the huge quay that's a massive car park on the Scheldt riverside in the city centra.Usu near to the miniature town museum at the south end...Hymer "baby" ( 1978) is blue and cream (well it was once a neat little yacht hitched on. Always a cuppa or mayb a beer aboard my Tardis and all wilders always welcome . So come all ye..cead mila failte... if you are nearby.
