For a while we've had a smell of gas now and again and up until this evening could never find a leak on any unions etc in the gas locker. Turns out the leak is from the back of a valve on the smaller of our two bottles and makes no difference if the valve is open or closed. Its also a bit oily to the touch. Here's a pic of the offending valve ...

Haven't a clue what's going on with this, so any advice gratefully received and I'll have a word with Gaslow on Monday.

Don't do anything with it ,don't have it in the veh if you are using the veh ,take it to gasit or a reputable expert .think you have been fortunate no mishaps have happened
Do not use that bottle inho

unfortunately its gaslow their products are very poor quality .
it should be against the law for them to be allowed to keep selling such junk.
have over the years seen so many faults with the quality.
luckily they do exchange thigs but its the same quality you get back.

Or put it out in the garden and tell the manufacturer to come and collect it; let them take the risk.

Thank you all for your prompt replies.

I have taken the bottle off the van and it is sat in our yard venting out to atmosphere and nowhere near any source of ignition or a drain. I will get in touch with Gaslow after the weekend and get it sorted. This is not a new bottle but one I bought a few years back from a forum member and it has worked fine up 'til now.

The WC forum has come up trumps again.

Think I read that gaslow bottles should be returned after ten years .

Gaslow have 15 years life span, mine are 10 year old and recently had new non return valves fitted free of charge as there was a minute leak on one and non return valve failed on the other.

John.

Email sent off to Gaslow this morning showing pictures of the valve and the test and manufacture data stamped into the bottle.

We'll see what comes and I'll post the result.

Not overfilling your bottles, are you?

Remember to stop filling when pump initially stops . . . you've reached 80% full, ie recommended volume.

If you press lever again, then you can fill bottles to maximum 100%, but this is obviously not recommended.

Did it last year and after two weeks usage gauge was still showing maximum, and thought it was broken. It did start to show less after another two weeks and it was obvious I had overfilled.

Everything did work alright though, no liquid gas spurting out anywhere.

But could maybe a cause for your valve leaking.

We get a slight gas smell in our locker also, I have bubble checked all joins and around the valves, checks have come back negative. There is no smell of gas within the MH itself so haven't been overly concerned. Also, there is no discernable drop off on the gauges when the gas is not in use, even over a two week period. Bottles are 4 years old and the hoses 2 years old.
Has anyone else had a similar situation?

You did
Many of their own pages are still saying 10 and some 15 ?
Just to confuse matters gasit say it is both eu and uk law for the bottle to be tested every 10 years ?
What is the life span of a GAS IT refillable bottle?

Written on the bottle is a 15 year guarantee and this is a bottle with a manufacture / test year of 2006 and what I understand to be a retest / replace date of 11/2021 if I'm reading the info correctly.
