Pressurised propane is equivalent in explosive power to gunpowder.

Funnily enough my 10 kilo fixed underslung tank is situated about 18 inches below me when I am in bed.

as long as the relief valve isn't pointed straight up you've got no worries!

what about standard exchangable gas bottles ...what happens to them in a fire ...do they just explode ?
 
no they should have a blow off valve . i have seen some bottles with out but the valve is usually on the backside of the tap. very often a grey round little thing .or should i say circular . on calor its a red plastic cover over it . do have a french total gas here with out one and a maroc bottle with out . but theremay be a heat melt part on them not sure.
