Evening all,

Came to the idea that I am going to invest in refillable Gas bottles (Call it an Xmas present for the other love of my life ;) ). Originally going down the Gaslow route, but have came across some on fleebay called Gas It.

GAS IT REFILLABLE 11 KG GAS BOTTLE & LEVEL IND - Compatible with GASLOW bottles | eBay

Looks the same and they are basically promoting the fact that Gaslow fixtures and fittings can be used on their bottles. Not fitting a tank, as want to take them with me when I sell, plus no room under the motorhome left now after the heater upgrade.
Can anyone kindly give comment if they have/are using them and any issue I should be aware of.

Ta in advance :D

Yep, get an adaptor and follow the safety procedure. You get your money back in 2 refills.

Looks fine whilst i'm in the UK, problem will be 8 months abroad!! At least I can get the adapters for EU countries for the other bottles (unless someone has another idea of course :D ), plus I understand that some French fourcourts get arsy if you are seen filling a bottle instead of a dedicated point on the van??

Sorry guys, have just found an adapter that has the ability to fill abroad. Ta for the money saving tip :cool1:

If you wanted to fill cylinders in stealth then I guess a standard outside gas point connected to a cylinder inside the van is the way to go...has that been done?

hi . if you are stupid ,thick and not at all capable of following instructions exchange bottles are for you. . yes external fillers are used for filling normal gas bottles. even gaslow and all the others do adaptors to fit straight on the bottles . . all bottles are refillable .
if you are stupid , careless and havent got a brain them even gaslow can be dangerous.best just exchange.

Um yeah well thanks for that colourfull response . My concern was more the problems you get with arguing with forecourt attendants (if anything) or any legality issues and not my ability to be able to fill them.
Have now ordered "Z" part and a Euro and French adapter, will see if I run into problems when i'm over there next year.

I have filled up numerious times both here and in France and never the slightest interests from the attendant. Initially I had filling point in locker but it was just so much a hassle positioning the MH at my local ASDA that I converted to external which is so much easier to use.

The cylinders you refer to look very similar to Gaslow, which I use and have now paid for themselves with half price gas.

No doubt we will have post concerning filling standard bottles and filling with an adaptor but it's up to yourself if you feel confident to go this way.

I have just fitted the gaslow products - 2 x 11kg cylinders. To fit the external filling piece you will need a
70mm hole cutter and an auger - you can get them from Wickes total cost about £20.

Don't be in a rush to fill the cylinders too quickly - despite what I was told they do not have a non-return valve on them so when I was ready to install the 2nd cylinder and external filling piece I couldn't do it. So now I am using the gas and when the cylinder is empty then I will complete the extension. Just mean I suppose - can't just let £20 worth of gas go up into space!!!

Cheers

I too have looked into the "Gas It" bottles and as a "Proper" refillable cylinder they look great.

The distributors are only 35 miles away from me, but are shutting early for the holidays.

I'm going to have a closer look, but on paper they are a less expensive approach than gaslow.

I'll let you know of my investigations.

What is stupid, thick and indicative of not having a brain is to continue advocating refilling bottles not having overfill prevention valves without making sure that everyone likely to take your advice is 100% aware of the dangers of making mistakes. Normal duty of care considerations usually mean responsible people don't get on public forums advocating procedures that are of questionable legality and have a real likelihood of creating a dangerous situation.

thanks for the link, had not even considered refillable bottles last time i looked they where hundreds of pounds but now i see they have come right down in price and looks like a brain dead moron like myself could operate them safely.
makes getting gas abroad easy:dance:

Thanks guys for the input so far.
I have bought the adapters and valve, but the more I think on the more I am going to go down a single re-fill route. The van currently has 2 x 13kg Calors, so will change one of them for an 11kg re-fill, put a change-over valve in and keep one Calor Propane just on stand-by. The adapters will not be a loss, as they are Gaslow one's anyway.
Just have to go and do more digging about these bottles.

Once again Ta for so far ;)

techno100 thanks for the tip just ordered 6kg and fill kit.
as you say cheaper than the others and free delivery.

Mine has been left at the local post office by parcel force GRrrrrrrr
Had they taken it back to the depot I could have collected it up to 7p.m.
Are they stupid? I never asked for that

Cheers Techno!

I've bookmarked the Hamilton site for when I'm ready to fit a gaslow to my van.
Do you know if there's a cheaper alternative to the Gaslow filler kit?

Winks

Yes Gasit sell a direct on bottle filler adapter. See their website
