Gas Enquiry....

I have a Fiat Ducato Drifter (2Ltr) and the gas bottle is a tinsy winsy CampinGaz 2.2kg - type 907.
Please, has anyone got both experience of this size bottle and how to fit a bigger one? If I get a larger gas bottle, will I need to change the fitting?
I'm very new to all this - and any help will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

a lot of experience with these bottles my VW25 had 2 of them fitted in a specially built cupboard and nothing else would fit unfortunately as they are very expensive to refill get rid of it asap and get propane bottles so you can camp all year round.
I don't know what size bottles you can take or how many, there should be securing straps in your gas locker so first thing is to see how many bottles can be strapped in then measure to see what height and diameter bottles will fit.

and yes you will need new fittings the gaz fitting is used only by them.

Hi I'd try my nearest Calor main supplier drive van there and get them to see what fits and they will be able to supply fittings reqd as said propane is a all weather gas. But hold on to those Gaz bottles they are expensive even when empty you could try swapping them for the calor bottles save the deposit

If you don't have the room in the locker for a bigger bottle but have the room to carry one elsewhere you could simply cut the pipe and add a connector (gas barbeque type) and do this with the appropriate regulator for the bottle you want to use. I had this made up fairly cheaply from a gas suppliers in my local industrial estate. Then you have the choice to use either as Camping Gas is readily available all over Europe, or you could switch back if you run out temporarily.

Sorry just come on this site for something else and remembered I'd not forwarded this note.
If you live in the North West you may find this offer useful 6kg propane bottle filled £14. That is gas and bottle not an exchange.
It says BP on the side but BP are now part of Flo Gas.

6kg Propane Cylinder (Screw Regulator) - Gas Cylinders UK - (Powered by CubeCart)

Newish poster not meant as an advert more that it might be useful knowledge. Please split to a new topic if useful.

What they don't tell you on the web offer is that there is a £20 deposit charged on the bottle. They are trying to mislead you when they say "rent-free."

Nevertheless, £14 for a gas only exchange is a damn site cheaper than Calor's rip-off prices

That's a bit (lot) naughty I wouldn't have recommended them had I thought that was the case. I'd actually phoned them to confirm the offer they were happy that it was £14 only but then said something about saying I'd spoken to Mr X,or Y so maybe the offer is a bit variable. I ended up not using the offer as I needed a couple of bottles of butane (Refills) as well and Bolton Bottle Gas were cheaper overall. I'd got an out of the ark propane bottle and looked it up on Flogas Cylinder Brands | Flogas so no problem with replacement. Wish I'd remembered their price as it must have been close. Ironically ended up with one of the brand new BP bottles that Gas Cylinders must be pressure testing.

What really galls is the amount of duty paid on Autogas and your looking at around £8.40 for 6Kg of that.

It's way at the bottom of several other jobs fitting a permanent tank to the Dandy though!

Apologies for hijacking the thread and labouring this tangent, but I received an email response from Jason Ford of Gas Cylinders (UK) Ltd, apologising for his operatives attempting to charge me a deposit. Apparently they have recently changed their charging structure and certain staff may not be fully aware yet. He invited me to revisit and ask for him by name. Anyhow, I have now bought a full 6kg propane bottle from them for £14 cash, (it would have been +2% for card.) Thanks Tow Itch

Jim
