I know it's an old one but people still talk about being gassed on the motorway aires in France.

When reading up and following responses on other forums to my posts about the problems with my habitation door security, I came across this:

Gas attacks | Motorhome Matters | Motorhomes Forum | Out and About Live

I know a few people still worry about it but hopefully this will put their minds at rest.

Its them bake beans i have told you lot many time,s they don,t travel well:lol-049::lol-049::wave:

Keep safe

Hi Daiboy,

I have seen many reports and spoken to a couple last year in Portugal that said they had been gassed and robbed, but I was not convinced while speaking to them that it was gas.I think yes they may have had a break in over night and did loose valuables, but I think their bad heads may have been caused by drink.I do not use any Motorway Aires, and only use other Aires I feel safer on or with a few other vans. After my robbery in broad daylight at a Supermarket in Italy I think you can only be aware of your surroundings. If you have a Motorhome you are a mobile Wallet for any passing lowlife.

Regards Snowbirds.

In the Russian siege quoted, 20% died and many of the survivors where not even sedated. It is almost impossible to anaesthetise someone without killing them under such conditions as the inside of the van. Anaesthetic agents have got better since then but have also got a lot more expensive so as the prof says in the letter, "not worth it unless you are after the crown jewels".

This is one of those many stories that seem to be "a friend of mine" or "I heard". It was going the rounds of the trucking community 10 years ago, but I never met a victim, but couldn't get on a ferry without being told to watch out for the bogey man.

we have met a couple who have been gassed .....was told the tale an i believe him totally rational man ....nothing to disbelieve....

I've never believed in this.my theory is the myth started as a ''what if'' scenario when someone realised how easy it is to buy Easy Start, which contains ether,an anaesthetic gas. the fact that it is highly flammable, and obviously explosive in a confined area makes it an unlikely 'Knockout 'gas,if the fridge is alight, goodbye thieves and goodnight campers !!
incidentally Australia has it's own version of Easy Start Google Image Result for http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article783876.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/Nulon+Start+Ya+*******

If worried always sleep in your Mark 10 Respirator and NBC Suit
(yes you ex military types will know these terms well)

cant see why anybodys worried about this ......what ifs happen all the time dont worry about the £$%^ that might happen an live life ......before the big red bus mows you down when yer crossin the road while yer heads in the clouds imagining all the bad things that could happen

Very good friends of ours were robbed in their hose in southern Spain and the robbers used gas, so as far as I am concerned the risks are real

I don't suppose they told you which gas or how they managed to fill the van with the correct concentration of gas.

Some people tell a very good storey.

Well I doubt gaz shares your opinion, nor do I :sleep-027:

If somebody was going to rob my van whilst I was in it, I think I would rather be gassed than stabbed or shot!

you are probably no more likely to be broken into whilst you are in the van than you are in your own home.

Well if the Clinical Adviser to the Royal College of Anaesthetists cannot work out how its done and the Russian Special Forces failed miserable, I just wondered what your storey was or is it you that needs to "Get Real" and stop trying to scare vulnerable people out of enjoying their Motorhomes.

But is he really going to say it's possible.

A: He'd be out of a highly payed job, when people see that anyone can do it. ;)

B: Might encourage more thief's to give it a go.

I'd like to join in but a flying saucer has just landed in the field next to us.

I was gassed ,strangely enough by a german ,it's not an experience I've ever forgotten.i woke up being carried across a road by my parents. the stupid dentist had overdone the gas[ old habits ? ] that was over 50 years ago and I can still remember the mad dreams !
