Hi, A few months ago Garmin informed me that my trusty old Street pilot 2610 will no longer be supported by map updates.

It seems that, like its owner, its past it’s sold by date !!! "Keep the comments polite Pleeze"

Around a month ago I saw a Garmin nuvi 1340 on Amazon for £89, thought that’s the kiddie & bought it. Apart from the fact that you cannot load routes into it seems a good piece of kit Buuut. How do you remove waypoints once you have loaded them in ?

Any ideas Garmin users.

Mine's only a basic 205, so it may be different, but if they are in Favourites then I can delete them individually using "edit", or mark them and delete a bunch by using "tools", "my data", "delete favourites".

The ones I have downloaded using the POI loader (stored in "extras") can be deleted by running the POI loader and selecting "Remove all previously installed POIs from your device" - but if you didn't want to delete all of them I'm afraid I don't know the answer.

Hi Kainene, Thanks for reply, but I load into Nuvi using my street pilot map & this has no facility for removing all in one hit. As I always have around 800 / 900 in the unit at any one time I would prefer not to remove them all singly.

Several blogs on various sites all seem to have this problem with moden Garmin units.

Maybe you could download the Garmin POI loader and run it?

Hi, Tried that first off plus a hundred percent guaranteed freeby download thats meant to do it.No go. I would have had more chance of of getting a result by asking a Yorksherman for a loan.

As I say, this particular topic is the subject of much cursing out in the blogospere.

Manufacturers never think of the problems they cause by using joined up writing in the manuals. :p

Old Arthur will sort you out, he's a techie you know. :D

Or is that a Trekkie?

Manufacturers never think of the problems they cause by NOT supplying anything that may remotely be considered a manual.

They think Manual is the European version of Manuel, comes from Barcelona and knows nothing.

hi dezi,
I too, had problems with garmin to begin with.
If I tried to upload a poi using the garmin uploader, it overwrote
the existing files which i had previously loaded and I lost a lot of poi's
so to combat this I now have a file on my computer
containing all files that I've loaded into the garmin.
if I want to delete a single file,or add more files
I change the file on the computer first
then load it into the garmin, thus over-writing all previously loaded info
maybe thats a bit of a "thick" way to do it but it works

nuvi 1340

Hi Dezi

I just google manual garmin nuvi 1340 go to the 3rd one down the list which will
take you to the garmin site and click on Owner's Manual, Rev. E, Jul, 2010 | Download its a free full manual hope you find what you need
good luck

Have not tried this solution yet because I read on another forum blog that somebody with the same model as mine simply got a "waypoints full"
sign.

Thanks for info Navigator. I did this when I first got the unit.Nothing I could find about deleting waypoints. Hence my vitriol about how useless it is as a manual.

Bit like asking a wearsider his views on Wittgenstein’s "Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus", good question, but no answer is ever going to be forthcoming.

You would be wrong my little southern friend (as usual).

My advice to you is this:

What can be said at all, can be said clearly; and whereof one cannot speak thereof, one must be silent.

My friend Bertrand Russell also believed that fact. :)

Bertrand Russel eh, good man, excellent man, but I think that you are probably best leaving Bertrand his Celestial teapot & the existence of God well alone young Mainwairing.
The next step is Nietzsche, & that’s always downhill.

Nuvi 1340

Hi
I had this problem with my 1690 and a load of POI's i didn't want Garmin tech.sent me this info it worked for me I used the first option removed all extras in one hit. It might work for you :-
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

There are two different ways to remove Custom Points of Interest (POIs) from a Garmin device. The best method will depend on the way that the Custom POIs were originally loaded onto the Garmin unit. If the Custom POIs came from a *.gpi file, the Manual Delete option will be needed. If the Custom POIs came from a *.gpx or *.csv file and used POI Loader to install them, the POI Loader delete method will be needed. Since both methods can be used to load Custom POIs, both methods may need to be used to remove the Custom POIs especially if one method does not completely remove all of the Custom POIs from the Garmin unit.

Manual Delete Method:

Connect your Garmin unit to the computer
Open My Computer
Open the Garmin or SD Card drive
Double-Click on the Garmin folder
Double-Click the POI folder
Delete all *.gpi files
POI Loader Delete Method:

In order to remove Custom POIs from a Garmin Device, the latest version of the POI Loader must be installed.. Go to the POI Loader page to get the latest version. Once the latest version is installed do the following:

Connect your Garmin unit to the computer
Open the POI Loader program
Click Next on the first screen
On the next screen the program should auto-detect your unit, make sure the correct unit is selected, then click Next
On the following screen select Remove all previously installed custom POIs from your device, then click Next
The program will display: To re-install custom POIs you will need to run the POI Loader again. Are you sure you want to proceed?
Click Yes
A message will display: Congratulations you have successfully removed all custom POIs from your device
Click Finish

Once finished, all of the Custom POIs files from the Garmin device will be completely removed.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

With Best Regards,
