Hi everyone,

We're planning next year's trip to Scotland, and would like to travel up the A939 from Baallater. However, I have distant memories of a very humpbacked bridge that I think is the Gairnshiel Bridge. Is it passable with a large motorhome, 26ft long and 7ft 3ins wide, or would we get horribly stuck??

Thanks,

Mary & Derek

Thanks, Canalsman, we'll just have to breather in and hope for the best! I love the Google Street view, spend hours looking for suitable lay-bys to wild in!

Years ago we travelled that road with our trailer caravan. We didn't risk the B976 ( we were coming south from Tomintoul), but the "main" road posed no great problem to us. The only incident of note was at that time parts of the A939 was single track and we came across a road gang complete with tarmac layer which filled the road. We had to wait while they laid a new bit of road before we could get past them.

Incidentally I later took our exhibition unit (25ft o'all) towed by a 3.5 tonne flat bed truck in company with a 22ft 7.5 tonne box van over the Spittal of Glenshee on our way south. The up and down twisty bit before you get to Bridge of Cally was "interesting".

Hi
I used this road regularly in my 3.5t on furniture deliveries. The B976 too. Often met large tourist buses along it, so no problem for a MH. Great little spot to pull in just after the bridge too.
