Funding our Travels

Hi All,

I took voluntary redundancy recently, paid all our debts off, brought our motorhome and now we are running low on funds. We want to travel for as long as possible around Europe. I have access to a laptop and wanted to work from it part time if possible, I was a senior manager with BT within sales and credit control. Has anyone got any good ideas about working from home as it were.

Will look at anything, want to be paid a reasonable amount if possible but not wanting silly money either. Happy to proof read, data entry, anything really but the would be good to put my experience into practise if possible. I have also project managed for BT. Anyway, any ideas would be great.

We are house sitting in France, Loire Valley until March then travelling around the rest of Europe probably heading to Germany, Austria, Switzerland then Italy, who knows after that. The aim is to travel for at least a year if not longer. If any of you are travelling around the Loire Valley and wish to let kids and adults socialise then let us know.

Regards

Nathan

Hi, happy travels, as a Computer Numpty myself, it would be good if someone like you with your apparent knowledge were available around the general camping environment to give instruction on how to cheaply access the internet whilst travelling, other than using the Libraries as I am doing at the moment [ free ] instruction on how to make the best use of our computers and IT in general. I am sure there is money to be made in this way. Regards Malc.:D;)

We fund our travels through our Pensions. My wife's British Pension pays for everything at home. We have no mortage as the house is paid for. My German Pension pays for all our trips abroad. What we save for when we are abroad for 7 months in the year, whereby my wife's pension is not touched is surplus for whatever we wish to do with it. We have paid our dues for 48 years now it is time for us to collect. Simple as that. I feel sorry for the younger generation as times have changed a lot.

Funding your travels

Hi Badgerfamily, why not package all your experiences and sell information on the internet? This is what we are doing, and there are a lot of folk doing it better than us I must admit! Generally, any good knowledge is marketable.

My wife has great knowledge of the wedding industry as she was a celebrant for many years. We created a website promoting her e-books that is going very well. Have a looksee at Wedding Vows and Ceremonies, your complete guide.

We have a few acquaintances doing the same thing in many industries, and we are assisting a real-estate guy to emulate what we have achieved.

Seeing as you asked - just a thought

Go East young man.

There are a few people making a living from hunting down old tat that people think are antiques. Anything small that can be sold on Fleabay and posted easily and safely. Siberian Salt would find a market in the UK at present.

I might add it never ceases to amaze me what people will buy - a friend sold 30 cardboard boxes for AU$130 last week, just straight out of a supermarket discard container. I sold a Landrover capstan winch to a guy in Brazil a few years ago - postage was double what he paid for it!!

Although we have a few years to go before retirement we're testing the waters now asking at various campsites about donating a days work for a free weeks camping, it seems to be gratefully accepted but then again we speak the language (German) so it's abig plus.

Thanks

Well a few varied responses there which is what I was after, I will take a look at the online e-books and potentially look at the wi-fi spots as a website for travellers. McDonalds are free wi-fi which is pretty useful to know when travelling, you can also pick it up in their carpark so you don't need to enter the place.
