Fuel Problem

I have problems starting our Kontiki on occasion. I have recently had the glow plugs replaced and a new primer pump head fitted to the fuel filter housing. The engine is Peugeout 2.5 diesel.

My instinct and experience tell me that the fuel is draining back, If I pump the primer head she starts first time.

Does anyone have any experience of a similar problem? If there is a pin hole in the fuel lines is there a common place it happens?

I have a Peugeot too (= same as Citroën and Fiat).
Check the lines before the pump. These are rubber pipes in a canvas coat;
probably the rubber went porous - but you cannot see this trough the lining. Change them for ducts without lining.

So thats the fuel line from the 'manual primer pump' to the pump? I'll have good look at it.

I have a 'fuel miser', this is something I have never seen before some sort of after market thing that was already fitted, Could this be the issue I wonder? I have no idea what it is or whether it actually achieves anything.

I had a problem after a service where the mechanic didn't wind the screw into the bottom of the fuel filter properly. Drip by drip it emptied until when I came to start it a few days later it just sucked air in through the bottom. Took the poor AA guy 90 minutes to find out what it was. Might be a long shot but maybe worth a quick check before you start replacing fuel lines.

My renault master did this too, It started after I replaced the fuel filter with one from partco! Once I put a different brand of filter on it cured the problem!

Thanks to all :)
The fuel filter and filter housing are new as they were replaced by my service mechanic when the problem first occured as he thought it the most likely problem. This seemed to cure the problem for a while but I think its simply that it has stood for a week so the 'leak' is just very slow. I'll check out all the screws and fitting are tight and leave it a week then if its still occuring replace the fuel line from the filter head to the pump.

Check the fuel stop solenoid on the injector pump, there is a little piston in there that cuts off the fuel supply when the engine is switched off. It's a magnetic type switch and they start sticking when they get older and can cause starting problems. We have a Talbot Autostratus 2.5D, same engine as your Kon-Tiki, and it happened to us a couple of times till we changed it. It appears to be worse when the van has been standing for a while and the battery has drained a bit due to running the clock and radio memory, alarm etc. Also if the weather has been damp and there may be condensation on the solenoid terminal. Hope this is helpful to you.
