Might seem a stupid question but we have just bought a motorhome and fridge not working. We are going away this weekend and wondered if we could just take a small fridge and plug it in when we are parked on a site and hooked up. Can anyone see a problem with this?:hammer:

just turn it up to max temp till yopu leave then it should be still cold when u get there and dont forget to tape it shut before you move it dont want contents falling out

Thanks everyone - we are stressed out getting organised!

Make sure you keep the fridge upright when you move it.You will have to wait for a few hours for the gases to settle if you dont.

Only problem I can see is waiting for the wine to cool !
So bin that and take whisky and brandy and we will meet you where exactly ?

No problem stick it in a bucket of ice nice and cold when you get were your going.:lol-049::lol-049::lol-049::cheers:

Back in my motorsport days I used a household fridge. Everybody thought I was crazy but soon realised that I was the one with the cold beer all weekend! Just make sure you keep it upright during transport.
And as mentioned already, tape the door to keep it shut during driving!

Only problem will be finding one small enough at a reasonable price. I had loads of room back then (7.5t Merc conversion) but finding something small enough to fit through a MH door can be tricky. When using the caravan we had to lift the fridge through the window.

We managed to get small enough one in B&Q. I was eyeing up the space to store stuff but seemingly we need a fridge for milk etc lol. Hubby is away out putting water in and hoping he doesn't break anything else!

Fridges generate heat (which is why in a m/h or caravan they are vented to the outside). You will probably find that the heat inside the van may be unbearable especially if it's hot outside.

Secondly, there are two types of fridges. Compressor (with a noisy electric motor) and evaporation, which makes no noise (but still produces heat in the cooling process).

Nothing's ever plain sailing, unfortunately...

Had a great time :lol-053:

I put in 2 frozen ice packs and that kept everything cold - even the wine.

Other motorhome owners were waving to us - very friendly and great first experience.

My brother came over from Aussie and stayed at my caravan in Suffolk (on site) for 3 months and he managed to run a household fridge ( bought second hand for a tenner ) off the mains in the Awning.I was amazed how cold it kept the beer!!!! Good Luck

Fridge Freezer

We often take our 7' american style fridge freezer with us on the roof then just leave it outside plugged to any spare 16a socket. works great - especially the ice dispenser - bit of a pain having to go up the ladder every time though.

is the venting not because the caravn/m h fridges triple power 240v 12v and Gas hence the need for venting
