A solution of White Vinegar and water will clean the probes and should work. It may not in your case as you have a new van.
Have a look at the top of the unit. Look very, very carefully for a tiny screw head. It may have a little blob of paint on it. This is for calibrating the readout of the gauge.
If you adjust it with a jewellers screwdriver, it might fix it.

I would be inclined, if that new (09), to have it looked at under warranty if Maingates Sarsons solution doesn't work
