Freedom of information act. Speed camera database.

Hi Everyone.....

Just thought you might be interested to know that following the UK government's freedom of information act, you can now get access to ALL speed camera offences registered in the last twelve months.

Everytime your car goes past a speed camera, even at 1 mile over the limit, it is registered and placed upon a database.

You only get a ticket if you are way over the limit or, (this is the bit that I didn't know) if you receive over 10 near misses, you'll be classed as a serial offender and get a ticket the next time you go just over the limit.

This is why you hear of people being done for doing 34mph in a 30mph limit area, whilst others doing 39mph do not!

You can check what has been registered against your vehicle at the following web address:-

My link

Simply enter your car registration. If there is any data on your vehicle, you can click on the camera window to see a copy of the photograph.

Hope it's useful and saves you a fine!

Since my return, I have refrained from commenting on any legal stance, but on this occasion I think it is useful to know the facts.

Speeding is an ' absolute offence' i;e if you get caught at 30. 1 mph in a 30 mph zone you can be prosecuted. And more to the point would be successful as their is no statutory defence.

Indeed Brunstrum ex Chief of North Wales police operated a zero percent policy.

The ACPO, recognise that speedometers can be inaccurate and even a new set of tyres if you were to record accurately will give a different reading on a speedometer that has not been calibrated ...I.E normally only Traffic Police cars are calibrated indeed it is a regular occurence as part of their maintenance schedule.

This is where the tolerance is introduced of 31 , 32 mph etc and has I have suggested varies from Police force to Police Force, as a discretionary allowance.

Some forces if you are marginally over the limit will offer a speed awareness course which avoids points but the cost is akin to the fine.... And no it is not something you can request or influence.

If you elect to take the court route which will cost you more, people often do to obtain the evidence against them , Sadly I think it is wrong but a course that in general needs to pursued if you want to see the allegations against you. The Cps will hide behind the data protection act.

This relates more to mobile speed cameras, if the camera was calibrated at the start of the session, and operated correctly, signed log indicates this , what is there to say there has not been operator error or malfunction of equipment during the photo session ? ............Therefore a solicitor worth his salt will ask for the full video tape so h ecan establish correct use and no error codes etc ...........The Cps however will only provide the evidence against the alleged person, they state that all other infringements do not relate to that particular case and therefore fall under the data Protection Act .

I find it interesting, that I can if extrelely bored stand on a bridge with a video calera this weekend and film Nothbound traffic on The M1 and I am not committing and offence .

Food for thought when your washing the van

Channa

And for some strange reason the Mags let em get away with it

Oops, caught speeding!

Thank goodness for the original posting on this matter, I would have never thought that I might appear on such a database for simply exceeding the limit by 2mph. The photograph was clearly me but thankfully they caught me a few seconds after I was on my mobile texting the wife, no doubt why I had such a surprised look on my face.

Thanks for this link, it's always good to find out what big bro is up to. I've definitely learned a lesson today, one I felt it appropriate to pass on to a number of boy racer colleagues of mine.

Eternally grateful.

I was actually quite pleased with what i found out - apparently my 30 odd year old pile of rust is capable of 94mph! my speedo must be under-reading by about 30mph! :lol-053:

Very Interesting...apparently I have been caught speeding on 24th September 2011 near Thornaby A66 Carriageway doing 81.2
in the 70 mph zone.....except I don't live in England and wasn't there on that date lol....wonder what vehicle is using my registration..Ha! Ha!

except...it's a hoax site.....here's the spiel....

Your mates have well and truly got you there, but all is not lost, you too can have fun and set your other mates up easily.

Let them think they have acquired a speeding ticket and see their faces when they think they have a speed camera fine to pay.

Just click here to stitch your mates up. It's as simple as that. We dont collect any information from you when you do it. We hate spammers as much as you.

The speed camera fine site has been online since the year 2000. We appreciate your support in keeping this site going by setting up your friends!

Help keep the speed camera site alive and send it on to your friends.. Stitch them up!

It is a hoax.

Apparently, I was overspeed on a road in Royal Tunbridge Wells. I was in Europe at the time.

So then I tried 4 other registration numbers, very similar to my own...my reg has the number 223 in it...I tried 221, 222, 223, 224 and 225...it appears we were all speeding on the same road on the same day.

And actually, if you keep inputting your own, you will keep getting different results.

Bigpieeater

If nothing else a thread like this at least shows how paranoid a lot of us are getting, and probably with good cause.

And I didn't think TWIT was a naughty word.

Have any of you bothered to actually look at the site properly?

It's a joke. Get a sense of humour. :have fun:

You don't even have to put a reg number in. Just hit enter in the box and when it takes you to the screen which says you have one speeding offence then click on "view picture" where it says image available in the bottom right corner.

Then if you want you can smile. Or God forbid have a little chuckle. :lol-053:
