Sitting here at the aire in Capbreton, thought I would get the Solwise Rocket aerial out to see if I could pick anything up. I got a few locked wifi's but there was the Orange telling me it was unlocked  Thought I'd give it a try (nothing to lose pi***ng down & too windy to put my little satellite dish up) I got connected & it sent me to the Orange site (expected that) then reading the page it said FREE WIFI   You had to put your name & email & you get 30 minutes free. BUT there are no limits to how many times you want to connect, it even remembers your name & email each time (been on for about 2 hours now, inconvenient having to re-connect every 30 minutes but I'm not complaining :p)

BTW anybody any experience of getting dental treatment in France (only got our E111) I believe we can claim some back but not sure how we go about it. Going to look for a dentist on Monday, wifes had a filling come out but she's thinking that the tooth might be beyond repair & have to have it out (wasn't keen on my idea, [pliers + wine] & wants somebody whose done it before. Happened at the NEC when we were on our way down to the tunnel. Somebody suggested temporary filling kit. Bought one & had a couple of goes but keeps coming out.

Found this website ORANGE HOTSPOT WIFI FINDER either just use Google translate or just click the rechercher hotspot

Hi Ed. Firstly thanks for info on Orange wifi.
As for dentists, We are on the French system and although they are as good as dentists can be they are very expensive.:( Is it worth clicking onto guv.uk to see what is covered by your E111?

Regards Nolly.

foor a start the E111 is no longer accepted , you need a EHIC

basic treatment from approved french dentists get reimboursed up to 70% ...anything cosmetic isn't and costs !!!!!

for re-imboursement apply to the local caisse primaire assurance maladie and they will send you a cheque to your uk address

I notice that uk travel insurance companies are stating ...including EHIC ...in other words you have to get most of the money back from the state system

note that if you go to emergency at a french state hospital everything except your food is normally free anyway

had a look at the orange website ...it says the first 30 minutes costs €1.50 ?????

It is the EHIC not E111 (senior moment) never needed to use it before. It is only either a straight forward filling or extraction she wants . Reading some of the info we weren't sure if you claim it from here or when you get back to the UK. If we have to claim here where do we get/send forms to? Are they likely to have them at the dentist? If we can't get sorted within a day or two we will have to wait until we get to Spain where I believe we can't claim anything back, I did read though that dental treatment was reasonable in Spain (only one arm & half a leg :p)

I'm definitely on Orange after I give my name & email I get this page https://hautdebitmobile.orange.fr:8443/home?langue=en&ORIGIN=ewifi&t=gko9i5hs It gives me 30 minutes then I have to log on again. The log on page just tells me to enter details for 30 minutes free wifi.

Dental in Spain

Hello Ed,

I have been living in Spain for the last ten years and have found the Dentists reasonable.
About 50euros for a straightforward filling or extraction last year.
If you are anywhere near Torrevieja in the Costa Blanca try phoning 966705083 and try to get an appointment with a lady dentist called Gry. If it becomes an emergency call the clinic on 650570444.
Also, I have found in the past, if you think you have an infection or "abcys" (spelling!) most of the dentists use Rhodogil, an antibiotic, for about five days before doing any any work. Available at any pharmacist without prescription.
Cheers, Brian

in france the receipt from the dentist is the claim form ; dentist will know the address of local office

you fill in your name /address , add photocopy of EHIc and send by post if not local to office

last time ~I had a filling I think it was €23 and they sent back 70% ....when I had a crown it was €600 and they paid about 20% !

Got the wife's filling sorted :D Found the girl in the tourist information helpful. Gave us the addresses of a couple of dentists nearby to try. They couldn't fit us in so went back & she rang around until she found one who could. It was about 1.5 kms away so we headed off for an appointment at 11:45, got there about 10:50, all finished by 11:00 cost 40€ but can't complain at the service. Took form to the local CPAM office which was close to the tourist information office. Planning now which route to take to Spain. Planning on possibly stopping overnight at the aire at near to Zaragoza, thinking of trying a different route down to Zaragoza. In the past we have crossed the border at Irun then headed down the 112A but are thinking of heading south from Biarritz onto the 121B but not sure what the road is like

We did the N-121A last year so might give the N-121B a try & see how it is. Intended to stop at the aire at MARLOFA but keep the place you mention in mind. Wasn't planning on going towards Madrid, looking at going via Teruel then onto an aire at JALANCE on the N-330. After that probably head towards the coast at Allicante to fill up with gas. We know quite a few places along that part of the coast where we can wildcamp.

You are making me so jealous - oh has got to finish off a few bits & bobs with the van and we'll be away. NOt the dentist bit though.

I wouldn't be too jealous just yet  weather has been pretty cold today. Had quite a few very heavy hailstorms & torrential rain. We were here at Capbreton last year just a few days earlier & the weather was great. We did intend to have a few days rest here before going to Spain but the weather is driving us away.

Had a look on the map, is it the A-122? If we stay at Marlofa not certain that we will just depends on what time we get near there. Then it looks a good idea to take that road, checking on Google Maps it would save us about 33kms but works out about the same distance if we have to backtrack.

Thanks for the info, made a note of it so we can hopefully use it on the way (unless Kate our TT voice decides to send us down some dirt track by mistake )

Do you think that TomTom has programmed something into the navigation software that is to deliberately send you off on a detour to nowhere if you start ignoring her  Once had her shut up on me altogether after here repeated requests to make a 'U' turn [think she was sulking] took a reboot to get her voice back.

let us know how much the CPAM reimbourses you ! you will probably be home before it arrives though!!

Just glad we got wife's tooth fixed quickly (40€ not too bad probably about the same we would pay at home)
Changed plans a bit, stayed at the aire at Marlofa, free to stay, free electric, free emptying but no water. Another camper came a Norwegian clou liner. Was very noisy at times as it was also a lorry park. Not recommended if you are a light sleeper, it was noisy up until about 10-11 ish then went quiet until about 6 when many were starting off. We were going to head for Jalance but it started to snow & judging by the amount of snow ploughs we saw they must be expecting more.
Got a problem with the toilet cassette, first of all couldn't get it out, looked like the handle would open enough to line up for it to come out. Managed to force it out & looking the quadrant gear must have jumped a tooth. while I was messing I heard something fall off inside the cassette & now it won't operate :(. Going to try a Thetford service agent at Oliva tomorrow (wife can't keep legs crossed any longer) Not had much luck getting warranty work done in Spain, they always seem to want you to pay & claim it back  Then when you do you are told you shouldn't have paid.

BTW back to the original thread, I am getting an unlocked wifi connection at Carcaixient, my Solwise Rocket with the reflector I made are working well. It is only showing a signal strength of 10% & quality of 45% but it's keeping a stable connection. When I was at Capbreton I wandered around with my PDA using WIFIFoFum to try to pinpoint where I was getting the Orange signal from but couldn't find it. Looking at the Orange wifi hotspot map it looked about a1km away!!

French Dental Refund

Just an update to my wifes dental treatment which cost 40€, the cheque came in March while we were away & £24.53 (surprised it was in pounds). We only got back at the weekend so only just put it in yesterday. Also had a letter from the French health system informing us we hadn't cashed the cheque. Cheaper than getting a filling done here in the UK.
