Have just been looking at LD Lines website, and their prices look very reasonable for next year. Before Brittany Ferries' prices went through the roof, we used them, bbut for the last couple of years we've been driving a bit further (from Somerset) to Dover, and using Norfolk Line, and have been visiting the Benelux countries and Germany. Now it's time to revisit Western France and LD Lines look like the ferry co. to use. Looking at the map the Pont de Normandie looks like the route out from Le Havre to use, as we want to visit some of the Normandie beaches before heading further west. Four questions. Firstly, have any of you members used LD Lines, and what are they like, thirdly, is the Pont de Normandie a toll bridge, and if so, how much is it?

I don't think so - I can't remember paying a toll when I last crossed it a couple of years back.

Just remember your head for heights! It's a spectacular drive over it, but nervous passengers may end up hiding in the footwell (mine did).

Thanks for that Black dog. It shouldn't be a problem, as we have crossed the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct several times in a narrowboat. When you cross it, on one side there is no barrier whatsoever, and you can literally sit on the edge of the boat, and look straight down to the River Dee 130 feet below. Now that is definitely not for the fainthearted.

I've seen that one on TV - whew! You will find the Pont de Normandie NO problem after that. It's a fantastic structure - high and sweeping to one side, so you can see where you are going. I'm bad with heights and wasn't looking forward to it, but it was so spectacular when we got there I forgot all about that. Enjoy yourself.

Pont Du Normandie

Hi Boatman,The Pont Du Normandie is 5 Euro a real spectacular bridge (as are the Pont Du Tancarville and Pont Du Brotonne.when crossing over to Honfleur if you look down to the right you can see the Aire,a good spot to stay although it can get quite busy at peak times, but its a lovely town.Gerry.

Many thanks everyone for your replies. We are really looking forward to it. I am sorry I haven't replied before, but have been in that scary building, with lots of pretty nurses and doctors, for a small op, so had plenty of time to dream about France in the spring.:) :) :)

I need to get to Domfront in the summer. LD Lines would be ideal except that I need to take the dogs, and outward it is an overnihgt crossing. May be a bit long for them.

Have used them before. It is an Itallian company and the ship used to ply the Med (I think). It has seen better days but for the price, I can live without the frills!

Another aire to stop at is La riviere st sauver, a few miles east of Honfleur, quieter,no charge,in a small village.
