hi all
Recieved my 3rd edition of all the aire france today off on 20th of july first time to france. Have been going to devon and cornwall the last couple of years but this year thought we'd try france. Ferry booked got the book we can't wait now.
any tips would be great.
hope you all have a great summer where ever you go.

first time to france.

I doubt whether it will be the last time for you. For MH-friendliness, it leaves many other countries way behind. All that is needed is for European motorhomers to realise that nothing bad happens if you leave more than a couple of feet between vehicles when parked for the night.

We fly out for Stuttgart on Sunday and as soon as we fire up the Hobby, will be heading down to the SW of France to start a 4 month tour (of France)

Hi Camper2,

My copy is still in the post. We will be off to France for the first time the week after you. Going to work our way down the coast for about a week and then turn inland and work our way back.

If you like Devon and Cornwall you must try South Wales. Much the same but without the crowds. We where amazed by places like the Gower and St Davids

Hi have you thought about joining France Passion it means you can stay on farms, vinyards and various other places throughout france - we find its well worth the money

France is Great :)

Hi,
I agree join the Passion system as it gives you a great choice of places to stay.
Fresh cheese, Goose farm, Nut oil pressing, Wine Wine Wine:D
Wonderful places to stay.

thanks again all
roll on the 20th of july

Hi a couple of things

1 Be selective as to when you join France passion if you get too excited and join now you might find your subscription runs out in easter (not much use in July)
Join after Easter to get best value.

2 July gets very busy in France the natives are touring about, by all means use aires but aim for a mid afternoon arrival to get a spot.

3 Dont worry ...... even if you miss an aire supermarket carparks , industrial estates etc all have bits you can park for the night with no problems.

I think it would be fair to say France is the most receptive country in the world in respect of any form of camping.

I am sure you will have fun

CAMPING-CAR INFOS will give you all the Aires de Service. There are plenty of other on-line guides to the Aires as well
You can download these onto a Sat Nav. It also pays to have a decent map as backup. I have found that the Michelin A3 atlas to be the easiest to use. It's a big enough scale to see without getting all over the place like a fold out map does - costs about £14 over here and a bit less in the French Supermarkets. You can also buy books that show all the Aires at the same time... but those will be in French :)
If you want a guide in English then the Vicarious publications All the Aires France may be worth having

Just to add: Once you see how free and easy motorhoming is in France you'll begin to understand how badly off we are in the UK

Touring France

hi all

Hi we toured in the west of france in July last year We booked three sites and also took
the Aires book and stayed on five Aires on route in between .I don't know what you like
but we took in the battle beaches in Normandy, At arromanches there is a car park over looking the mullberry Harbour from WW2 cost 4euro for 24 hours has toilet.Stayed on camp site next to Pegasus Bridge ,The Bayeux Tapestry is worth seeing too,We found the motorhomer's on the aires helpfull and friendly even with my poor French, German, and Dutch, etc. Traveled down to Brittany stayed at Deauville on a small aires next to Rail station but need to get in early ,but motorhomes can also stay on the Marina in town about two mins away If you want a great site try Le-Letty near Benodet in Western Brittany ,Good luck Snowbirds.

My tips are,

always say "Bonjour" to your neighbours, they are a friendly lot despite initial appearances, and don't get sucked in to the "brit gettos" you find on some of the coastal Aires. we have found that the further you get from the coast the more relaxed and friendly the locals become. we gave up entirely on the west coast last summer and headed for the Pyranees where we ended up having a fantastic couple of weeks.

hello there
just got back from a 2 week trip in france [ val thorens ] snowboarding ? went through aneccey in the night but then went through in the day OMG what a a site well worth worth a mooch also tried to go to paris for a quick look at the tower ??? never got any where near it a big nonononono ??? never again was so stressed had to turn round ? also we found if your a wine drinker go to the carrafour supermarket and in the wine section you will see 5L barels 4 50 euro just as nice as are good bottles here so we brought a few back ? thanks dogmanlpool
