it's easier to peel ginger with a teaspoon than a knife

frozen garlic is a great idea

Top tips Mr B - ta for that. Did you freeze the garlic yourself or buy it that way?

I tried chopping and freezing fresh chillies... it works but it's a bit of a faff to stop it all clumping together, even if you lay it out on a sheet of foil to freeze. I can't buy single chillis round here and usually end up wasting a couple if I have to buy a pack of 4 or 5... I absolutely love chillis but there's a limit!
I know they only cost pennies but it makes me sad to throw them away... ditto for fresh garlic, hence my query

bought it frozen from Sainsburys to try. dirt cheap and easy portions
i also use chilli paste in a tube or flakes . means no waste on chillies or garlic

I've only tried the frozen garlic once and most of it ended up left in the freezer for 12months before throwing it. For ease I tend to buy the big tubs 500g? which only cost a couple of quid, also found the chillie flakes very good.

I use red chilli flakes a lot but fresh green chillies when making a curry. I discovered the teaspoon to peel ginger a while ago but not used frozen garlic yet. I know they sell it in the Asian supermarkets in Bradford, often mixed with ginger. Comes in little individual squares...

Grow your own Jennie. They are very easy, and so much nicer fresh.

We grow some quite powerful ones at home as well as mild and get quite an abundant crop. My son also makes up some very nice pastes, but not for the squeamish!

Talking of dirt cheap Asda are still doing those real ales at 4 for a fiver = £1.25 a bottle.
Enjoying Arundel Gold ( local ) and Hophead ( Dark Star brewery ) at the moment from Asda.
Both beers are £2.49 a bottle in local garden centres!

I can bring some of these to the Norfolk meet if anyone is interested in tasting at cost price ( £1.25 ).
Maybe we could set up a Wildcamping beer club ? 😎
Cheers
David

Bizarrely, that had honestly never occurred to me! I definitely prefer fresh ones, so that's the perfect answer, even for taking on the van. Thanks Rob thumb.gif

Would it be possible for you to grow them in a pot placed in a sunny spot within the van; then you would have fresh chillies wherever you might be.

Regards,
Martlet.

I use Very Lazy Chopped Red Chillies bottled in white wine vinegar. Not much needed unless you want to blow your socks off. I have noticed that the flavour mellows if the dish isn't used till the following day.

I suppose we are lucky living where we do, If you feel you are losing some "Heat" a touch of red chilli powder will revive the fiery bits following day

I always use a knife for ginger , and the tip with garlic is to give a gentle crush with the knife the skin will come straight off.

We are still growing chillies from a plant in the local garden centre which had dropped chillies all over the place. My son picked a couple up and shoved them in the garden when we got home. They grow like weeds and self seed everywhere so its been going about 7 years! I am sure you could grow one in a MH with a little TLC and careful placing in a window.
