Found leak

Hi all have found a leak in van it looks like the vent from the water heater has been leaking for years.I noticed pool of water inwalkway near front seats. I traced it to the top of vent from under lounge seats on further inspection the wall was soaked so removed the paper and found the base frame was rotten for about a foot .I took the exterior vent off and sealed round so should now be ok .my question is should i replace wood or just fill with expanding foam which will make waterproof??.On closer inspection from underneath there seems to be a gap between moulded trim to the base should i fill with sealant .Hope makes sence cheers all await your comments from experience cheers john::mad1:

Also are you sure the water heater itself isn't leaking? Depending on teh type, the heat exchanger may be hidden from view and leaking and as this is in the burner area it may appear to be coming near the exhaust/outside.
I hate water - it does get everywhere.
But we should all take note how much vans twist and move, and sealant does go hard after a few years....

i will try and take pics tomorrow can anyone explain how to load on site in lamens terms please .As i removed the seats the outlet had pool of water on top and had to place teatowel on to soak up water mind you it was p.........ing down at time the water then went down and underneath and leaked out from seat area will try photos thanks for reply cheers john

No matter what the cause was for the water leak that made the base frame rotten, I would NOT fill with expanding foam. I personally would cut out the rotten section and a bit more and replace with a solid new piece of wood. It may be awkward and hard work, but once finished you will be pleased you took that route. Firstly, I would find the source or cause of the leak, repair it, then, fix the base frame. Perhaps, some other Member can advise you more professionally.

in pop up box locate files on your pc

left click file(picture) you want to upload

left click open

then left click upload

when uploaded it wil be in bottom of the window then click done it should be uploaded on your post

having seen pics,definitely rip out and replace.and after fixing leak dry out thoroughly with fan heater,or leave exposed to dry,check water hasn't got under floor or will smell for ages

thankyou all for comments i dont want rain but would be nice to see if sealed from outside vent again thankyou:cheers: i suppose could chuck bucket of water over anyway need to try and dry out then will replace as suggested
