We have decided to upgrade to our third motorhome. This means parting with our much loved, and exceedingly reliable Mercedes 207D Autotrail Apache. It is a 1985 (B reg) but has within the last 6 months had new wings, steps, door skin bottoms, front panel, wheel arches, grille and had all the bulkhead welded, so anything that rusts has been replaced.
It has the 2.4 straight diesel engine and around 130000 miles on the clock, which is absolutely nothing for these - they're known as being one of the strongest engines ever made and regularly do well over 500000 miles without problems, returning around 26-27mpg. It has also within the past year had a new fuse box fitted, lights upgraded to halogen, a new clutch, new front brakes and two services (it is serviced every 3000 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first). It also has two new leisure batteries (within the past 6 months) which charge as you drive - we have wilded for two weeks with no problem.
It's a 4 berth with lots and lots of storage as we settle for the one huge long day bed and a moveable chair, so where the two chairs normally go either side of the door we have put chests of drawers. The original layout could obviously be easily reinstated if you wanted. It has hot and cold water, mains and 12 volt, three way fridge, ZIG unit, large fresh water tank and grey water tank and wiring for a portable satellite. All internal wood was stripped and revarnished around two years ago, so looking nice and fresh.
We removed the carpet and put down very high quality vinyl flooring due to our love our walking and beaches - vinyl is much easier to sweep and clean.
The motorhome is absolutely dry and 100% reliable, it is taxed and MOT'd (tax expires 31/10/2011, MOT till end of Feb 2012) so you can literally get in it and go.
There are the usual dings and scratches one would expect on a vehicle of this age, and two slightly larger dents (not massive) one at the front and one at the back on the roof, probbly caused by overhanging trees. These do not leak at all. We have used it year round, even in the snow in Snowdonia in winter and have really loved it!
Other bad bits: No power steering, but very light when driving, just heavy when parking. Skylights have been sealed externally - they've been this way since we bought it and we have never investigated changing them. They don't leak and you can get plenty of air in with the windows and stable door.
It is not perfect, but it is a very good, solid, waterproof vehicle for its age and will always get you absolutely anywhere. It (and we) has persuaded many people to go out and buy a motorhome or campervan as they were so taken with it.
We are open to sensible offers on it. We are not expecting the earth, but equally won't give it away for nothing. Looking for just over £2000 ovno (advertised elsewhere for £2800 and that's competitive. Why? We don't want to lose the one we've got our eyes on!
I've tried to be as honest as possible - if interested, or if you have any questions phone David or Di on either 01443 675900 (follow the instructions and you will get through!) or 07878 863434. If you want us to phone you back, just say and we'll be happy to do so. I assure you, you will not be unhappy with this motorhome - we shall be very sorry to see it go, but very pleased to see a newer, gleaming one take its place. Located in South Wales.
