Hello!
I recently bought a campervan that turned out to be too heavy to drive on a 3.5tn (B) licence.
I'm here to share my experience, perhaps get some advice, and hopefully even sell the van.

What age are you? could you apply for the C licence to be returned?

As for selling it, give us a clue or two.

could also get it downplated maybe if it is set at just over 3500? downplating vans (especially commericials) is very common due to the license restrictions.

a) Was it a private sale or from a dealer? If a dealer you may have a case against them.
b) Are you over 70 or have an illness (e.g. diabetes) which may make getting a suitable licence more difficult
c) the 3.5t limit is the MGW of the van, check what the payload would be before downplating.
