Fly Problem

Hi All
Living near a farm we get large amounts of flies congregating between the doors and the door seals, then when you open the door they all fly inside the camper.
Any ideas how to combat this problem.
Regards jonrob.

I carry fly swatters. In Spain, I have them in full operation. Total kill on any one day was 113 flies (that is outside the MH, when we sit around our table and chairs) Inside all fly screens are down but the occassional one gets in by the driver/passenger window but their lifespan is short lived.☺☺☺

Hi Jonrob,

I have no idea if this will work but got to be worth a try. When we where tent campers we used to give the tent a good burst of fly spray every time we left it as it seemed to have a residual effect as we needed to do it less and less. I am therefore guessing that if you spray the outside of your door seal with a good quality fly spray it may deter the little devils. At least until it rains and you have to do it again.

on the van we had near my daughter's horses there was a hatch in line with the drivers door flies that came in are in an updraft and most went straight out the roof,we also had a net curtain across the door and got out and fly sprayed every now and again.spraying the doorseals might stop them hiding there

I wonder if lubing the door seals with WD40 would keep them away?

We have been in a few places where there was an over abundance of the dreaded beasts.
I always end up putting one of those sticky paper things up and end up catching myself ha ha ha:wacko:
We now have one of those battery bat things but not really tested it as yet:idea:

My sister in Oz has one of those zapping lights out in her Verandah. Hard to hold a conversation, when you are not used to it, as you keep hearing a splattering noise each time an insect gets fried.

our last van was built on a farm, same problem little buggers got every where. between the damn flies and mice, our van turned into a pest hotel:dnd:

couldn't find a good solution, ended up having to :hammer: all the time.
interesting to see if anyone found an answer though...

In our VW Trooper we used 2 overlapping bug net curtains inside the sliding door, this kept most of them out. Spraying everything with permethrin also helps.

Citronella candles work, but make sure you buy the really strong smelly ones, you can smell the citronella through the package, if you cant actually smell it, they are too weak and wont work. The flies just hate the smell and go back outside if they can get out, or dont even bother coming in.

We also have one of those electric light things, it was only £5 and uses hardly any electricity, we use it on the inverter when we are inundated with flies, usually in summer or in Spain.

As a last resort, fly spray, but dont like these as they are a bit potent for inside the van.:goodluck:

What Tbear said.

Spray the seals with Fly Spray. I know someone else that does this and it works a treat.

Permethrin does that and is a lot safer than it's bad rep suggests, fly spray is not so persistent and is bad for humans too. We used to use it to test nerve gas detectors...

Hi All thanks for all the suggestion will give a couple of them a try this weekend, I will let you all know how it goes.

Thanks
