Floor water ingress

Hi guys has anyone suffered a similar issue?

It’s water ingress all around the floor edge of the caravan, it must have got in through the side skirts.

Model of MH is a burstner T615

Just been quoted £1750 for repair but that’s £1500 in labour, parts and materials only being £250.

Has anyone had a similar repair? And what was the cost? would you say the quote is reasonable or excessive?

Cheers

Not heard of it before ,did they give you any idea as to where it’s entering through?
Go onto burstner owners group and have a look there ?

Yes it’s a known problem and as with most problems with motorhomes it’s caused by shoddy workmanship and cheap crap materials by penny pinching manufacturers.
Personally I wouldn’t spend the money as would never keep a van that had suffered from damp no matter how well it’s allegedly been repaired.
The cause of your problem is normally that behind the skirts the side walls are screwed on with cheap steel screws that rust and snap then allow water to track in , or the sealer comes away where the corrosion is.
Maybe fix it yourself if you have diy skills .

Totally agree Charlie

cheap and bodgy construction Id be looking at patching up and gettin rid probably although no help to the OP.What would others do?

£1500 in Labour so how many hours are they charging, sounds a rip off to me.And what are they telling you the parts and materials costs are ?

how can they know until they strip down and investigate the problem?

Probably needs part of the floor replacing .try a few more estimates .

£1500 to fix a major issue it’s not out of order if, and that’s a big IF they know what they are doing and can fix the problem with a warranty. If you like the van and have assurance over the repair quality I’d go ahead and keep the van.

Thanks for reply’s was just kinda hoping someone had been through a similar issue, seems to be a rubbish build flaw to this particular model, main floors ok it’s just where the side walls and floor joins where water gets trapped

It's a common problem with many makes of a certain age.

My Compass Drifter suffered badly from damp so I did the decent thing and sold it to somebody else.

(Actually, I did point out the faults and part exchanged it for a very low price with a commercial van dealer).

Water Ingress

Get a ladder or sorts. Go around your van and check the sealant that seals top of windows to body walls. Bet you've got at least a gap or crack in the sealant somewhere as you go along. Water gets in there and runs down inside of walls to floor. Wondered why mine had damp on floor below sink, just sink I thought, but no it was sink window...Get in there before weather gets colder.
