Fitting a TV aerial

Forgive me if I'm being stupid but I'm looking to fit a TV aerial to our Compass Avantgarde 150 but I can't trace where the co-axial cable goes. There is no mention of it in the handbook.

I've unscrewed the socket and there is definitely an aerial cable bundled up with the 12v live and neutral that go to the same socket, but it goes down through the floor and after that I lose it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to have to pay someone to fit it.

Thanks in advance.

I am very surprised that your van did not come with a roof aerial already fitted.

If you look on the outside of the van, you should find an external co-ax socket. This means that you can use an externally mounted aerial. Otherwise, I would have a permanent aerial fitted professionally to avoid water ingress. A Status 530 or similar would be OK.

I had a similar van to yours (Elddis Autoquest). The Status aerial back then was not as good as the freestanding one I bought from Maplin. Freeview and Digital reception is much better now and a Status aerial works well in most places.

So I was being stupid then! Thanks Maingate. Yes there is an external socket on the opposite side of the van near the water filler cap. I completely forgot and didn't even think of looking there, I just assumed the aerial cable would go upwards!

So as far as aerials go is the one you mentioned a good one? There's a lot on the market but I'd rather go for one that someone recommended. I just need it for freeview to be watched on a laptop.

The Status 530 is a good aerial but is not cheap.

The Image 430 or Image 440 are good and are much cheaper. The 430 is small and compact and you can get a sectional pole for it or even stick it on the side of the van with rubber suckers.

Look at www.aerialshack.com they have both on the website.
