First Trip

Just returned from our first trip in our selfbuild to Spain travelling through France and over the Pyranees. Parked up overnight in the carpark at the French/Spanish Border (Mid Pyranees) and didn't get bothered at all. Was snowing and very cold but peaceful non-the-less, and we enjoyed it. There are quite a few parking areas that could be used.
If the weather is good the views are magnificent, if not its still spectacular (snow covered mountains included!). Would definately recommend if out that way. Go through Pau and over the tops. Nothing else to say but "WOW!!!"

Sounds good. It's a trip we will make at some time. Could you give the road numbers you travelled over the tops please? Did you wild camp along the way apart from at the border?

Pyranees

Hi! We travelled from dover to calais by ferry. We won't go on the toll roads so we picked our route through france to the pyranees. Our sat nav was a great help (Put in via Pau that helped). On the A28 there are a few parking areas where you can stop off with toilets and picnic areas The one we have been to before that we have had no bother is on the N10 just after Chateaudun (toilets available). Its usually got trucks in but it means you are never alone. Further down past Bordeaux we stopped at a parking area (with toilet, well holes!!!!!) after Langon and not long after the turning for Bazas. (If you see a large squirrel on the right hand side you have gone a bit too far!!!!!!!
The roads we took over the Pyranees (according to the AA Atlas and sat nav!) were, Taking the N134 to Pau, From Pau take the D934 which will take you over the tops of the Pyranees to the Old Spanish/French border post.

Hope this is a help and if you do go, enjoy!

Thanks, yes it was the Pyrenees bit I was most interested in. Did you go on into Spain on the A-136, N-260 etc?

Yes we did , the road to Huesca then onto Zaragoza and onwards! Beautiful scenery, plenty to see.
When we went last year in a car we cam back through the tunnel, N330 then N134. Still beautiful but we wanted to be on the top and stay over night.

Pyranees to the Old Spanish/French border post.

is this the little village in the bottom of the mountains that has a market with the gandarme on every corner with there posh police uniforms on its very very rare they pull english they know you are just passing through

No! Its the border at the top of the Pyranees. There is a few souvenier shope etc up there. You are in the clouds while you are up there so is nearly always cold and damp but worth every minute going up there. We have been that way and back twice now and we love the journey (although hair raising if you look down some of the drops!!). Have been trying to attach a photo but it keeps failing.
