Help! I am new to motor homing (and this forum) I've only been out in it 2 nights and that was on a campsite. My girlfriend and i have decided to do a tour of Scotland for 10 days starting on Wednesday we are traveling up to loch lomond to from hull.

What do I do about water? Where do you get if from if you are wild camping? As I don't want to drive up with a full water tank and will be arriving late. Where is the Best spot in that area? I've read some posts saying you can't camp around the lake any more.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated :D

You've a few options really. You can book onto a site for one night midway through your trip to refill/empty your tanks. You can find water in many places, garages & public toilets are useful as they often have an outside tap. I'd personally empty/fill all your tanks before setting off, there shouldn't be any problems, unless you carry so many toys you're pushing the GVW.

You can no longer stay on the eastern side of the loch between March & October. And I believe Ducks Bay is now No Overnighting too.

If you must stay lochside, I'd recommend Inveruglas.

go further up the west coast so many places to stop and use public toilets for emptying if you use environmetal fluid. Like the other poster said plenty of places to find water but always carry some in case.

Hi Ste Thanks for your reply I will look in to inveryglus in the poi file. It doesn't need to be lochside just in the area if you have any better suggestions.

With regards to the water. I set of last time with a full tank of water and the guy next to me on the site said it was crazy driving all the way with the water it is not economical. I suppose we were on a site though.

Re the garage advice... sometimes is our experience and these days more often than not no they do not. Small local garages are a better bet than chains, and it pays to offer a payment or at the least take fuel.

Cemeterys are a good source if you carry a long hose, or a collapsible bucket and a funnel is a good option albeit slow.

Public toilets can be good for outside taps, and so are piers in general though ferry ones are especially good.

All the above advice is excellent - go on up and have a great time - Scotland is a lovely place to Wild.

For overnight there is a layby north of Luss opposite side of road to Loch, goes out of sight.

Always keep water tank full, it's got to be cheaper than going on a campsite or buying bottled water if you can't find it.

I used to stay at Inveruglas in my transport days as it had some facilities, but if I had a choice I'd head a little further west. The peninsula down to Tighnabruaich or Dunoon is one of my favourites, and I'll often avoid Loch Lomond all together and use Hunter's Quay ferry. Then you're straight onto the West coast routes while avoiding the busy tourist spots.

While you're there you must visit the Drovers Inn a couple of miles north of Ardlui at the top end of loch lomond. (Although it may be quiet at this time of year). It is very quaint, to say the least, but full of character. It is full of stuffed animals (even a Bear and a Haggis!) and they hold Ceilidhs and the like at weekends. The place has quite a cult following, especially with backpackers.

Also had a great night in the pub at Ardlui (part of the Marina).

When traveling this way i call in to Morrisons in Dumbarton for my shopping and fill up with water there . Tap on the side of the garage kiosk.
