We are taking our dog with us to France in 4 weeks, for the first time, whats the procedure on return, and could you recommend any good vets near Calais.

Thanks,
John.

Make sure that you keep the bones (as proof that you have eaten it) and don't bother with any French Vets (You can be tested for Rabies back in the UK for free). This post reminds me of one that I saw for taking Cats abroad ... hmmm ... We just normally take Hamburgers - but - Hey Ho. Each to their own. :lol-049::lol-049:

ps. Sorry Trikerman - but I couldn't resist! Oooops lol

Well she can be a hot dog.

S'Okay! SWMBO has just beaten me up (and withdrawn the Nuptials) for posting that one!! Duh!!! hehehe

If you have a Laptop with you then Pages Jaune is the answer. If your French is up to it, try and attend the ordinary clinic rather than making an appointment. It will work out cheaper. Also, the further away from the Channel Ports that you are will have a bearing on the price.
You can also save some money by taking your own Frontline etc with you and sometimes the Vet will use that and just charge for stamping the Pet Passport - if you're lucky :)

We have used a vet in Forges-les-Eaux twice after recommendations on other forums. There is a good aire about 10 minutes walk from the town centre. Vet Patrick speaks very good english. We have 2 border collies and last year paid about 58 euros for both and the vet supplied the meds (Milbemax and Frontline). We were there again a couple of weeks ago and took our own meds this time. Charged 36 euros.

Thanks for the info ownedbycollies, we have just done 3 weeks in France and took your advice and used the vet above, what a pleasant man he is, treated our little jack russell great. 35 euros.
Thanks,
John.

i have taken my dog many times around Europe, and Wittmann will be done in Jan when the new rules come out, much easier, quicker and cheaper than it is now!!!

Hi John

Glad to hear all went well! It is scary the first time and we were grateful for other peoples advice and experience.
We're now old hands (3 times!!!) and we really enjoy taking the dogs with us. We have used the vet at Forges each time.

Hope you had a great holiday!

Janine

I too am glad to hear you were sorted sans hiccuup.

Take it the Continent and avec le hounds is normal going forwards then ? ..............good for you.

My French vet has wrote war and peace on Léons passport as a result of him not truly understanding due process so we will wait and see

Th eworst that can happen is stuck here on an aire oh dear ...

Channa
