We on Saturday had our first taste of wilding. We poped into Bovey Tracey for 2 carveries for 7 quid on the river before going onto Dartmoor .
We stayed the night near to Fernworthy reservoir, and although the roads were narrow, a minor inconvenience,we had a good time.We had only two vehicles pass us all night and it was lovely and peaceful, cracking breakfast the next morning too!!The only downside was it really did get cold as we had no heating on as i havent go a carbon monoxide alarm yet .
And oh yes apart from not parking nice and level and a bit of a daft reversing manouvre which i wont go into a great time was had!

well done;);) we are hopeing to get our first night between xmas& newyear
:D shame about the heating:eek:

Dohh'hhh

You should have popped up to Oke, I'd have asked my mate to check your heating out.....I suppose you used the fridge on gas
The heating is a doddle as long as you remember to use the fan at any setting above 2 or 3, the flame window will tell you if you should have any concerns with dodgy flame....

Now about this "reversing" manoeuvre ??

Hi Keith, forgot you are in OKE,we were going to go there but got sidetracked, god how the time flys when your having fun.
We got the fridge working fine;)on gas although i do seem to be having a problem with the 12/240volt part of the fridge,i cant get the 240 volt side of things working have been trying to find out why.The heating works great we were soon quickly warmed up i just turned it off at night!
After the wifes lovely fry up in the morning we have made a long list of things to buy for the home!!
We will meet up with you guys at some point next year for sure.

what van have you got

We have a Hymer b544,and yes i dont like paying for anything!
Our exterior silver screens are quite cool,it was dead quiet,in fact so quiet i could hear the irritating noise of something lightly tapping on the side of the van, turns out it was the top of the aeriel tapping against the body:(:)

OK as i know you all want to know,i had my first motorhome stupid moment.
The place where we stopped the night was actualy quite a large clearing, but as there was a gate i decided i did not want to cause a problem to anyone wanting to get access to the gate and the pathway beyond.Anyhow i decided to reverse quite close to a section of very uneven ground, there was a section that was cordened off by a box section of timbers ,where a tree was in the middle off ,and a bloody great big ditch.Anyhow as it was dark and i didnt realise i reversed very close to the angled ditch ,anyhow after seeing the wifes scared face on getting out of the van,i tried to pull forward but the wheels just stated spinning.Yes that close shave had me with visions of getting pulled out of the ditch by the RAC or also seeing visions of the motorhome toppled over onto the tree and timbers all on our first outing!!
Anyhow i got the wheels in a stright line rolled it back and then struggled free in the end, well after all that we were tired and knackered we had a cup of coffee and put the heating on.I then put the screens on the windows and got back in the van to realise that the van wasnt level,at that stage i didnt care it was staying put!!
Does make you realise though that at night you dont have much visability and not much light to see very well alongside the van.More lights maybe me thinks!!
But we had a good day and when we got home on the Sunday we both decided we wanted to bugger off almost at once,so we could do it all again, but learn from my mistakes this time!!:D:D

All part of the fun and learning curve !!.

I too have done daft things, but has time passes you laugh about it.

Glad you enjoyed your first sortie.

Happy Camping
