My Adria Twin will be one year old soon, vehicle first registered 17 June 2009, motorhome 23 June 2009, I bought it from its first owner in November 2009.

I understand I need to take it for a habitation check, to satisfy the warranty and also good practice. Do I have to take it to an Adria dealer? My nearest is Webbs in Reading.

In the service handbook it says ‘change of ownership £100 to continue warranty past 12 months’ which appears to be a bit steep just to change the owner’s details.

Also on the vehicle side, should I have it serviced at a Fiat dealer to keep the warranty okay? It’s done just over 3,000 miles.

thanks, any experience / advice would be appreciated.

Regarding the Adria warranty, you'll need to read the terms and conditions, I think some manufacturers do specify that the habitation check/service is carried out by one of their dealers. If it's not specified, the safest thing, as far as maintaining the warranty goes, would be to get the job done at an NCC Approved Workshop, see: The Approved Workshop Scheme

As far as the base vehicle service is concerned it does not have to be carried out by a Fiat dealer as long as it's serviced according to the manufacturer's recommended schedule and using only manufacturer approved parts, and you must keep a record to be able to prove this if necessary.

In both cases, if you think there will be any warranty work needed, you'll almost certainly need to go to a franchised dealer.

good and correct advice m8. i used to have a land rover disco and enquired where i took other car too how much for service? they quoted £80 less than landrover, but i chose to use l/r as they really know the vehicle!

Does anyone remember Quintin Wilson on Top Gear? He did know his subject and one comment he used to repeat a lot and it has stuck in my mind. It was about second hand cars but is equally applicable here

"There's nothing like a good service history with lots of lovely dealers stamps in it!"

Any views on the £100 Adria want to charge me for changing the owner's details

Nothing much you can do about it if you want to continue the warranty, they are within their rights to charge an administration fee. It might be a small price to pay as against the potential cost of future repairs that would otherwise have been covered under the warranty.
