Hi Boylie

If you are staying on a site, when you get there. If on a long trip then you might like to take a bottle for a cuppa on the way.

Fill up atleast half a tank. You never know if you will need it. Always be safe than sorry.

Might be worth grabbing a couple of 5 litre bottles of mineral water from the supermarket. Morrisons do the Aqua Pura ones for about £1.40. Then you've got fresh water for making cuppas - and afterwards, the empties are great for filling up the tank and for carrying a spare supply.

I know people have different opinions about on-board water, but I never use tank water for drinking. I always carry 5 litre bottles of tap water from home for that, and top them up along the way.

I always tend to fill up with half a tank at home, as I've found a lot of camp sites either have their tap in a silly place where you can't get a vehicle to or there is no hose pipe there to use etc.

I like the advice of a watering can, and the 5l bottles of water.

I use my tank water for most things although I don't drink fresh water from it, but will happily use it for boiling and making coffee etc, then again my tank is only 6 months old, so as it gets older I may change my mind about that

We have 2 gallon tank and a watering can which we used a lot on the Aires in France as the hose did not fit several of the taps but also it meant that we could fetch water without loosing our spot. When wilding we tend to keep fresh tanks full and waste empty as much as possible. When staying on CS or CL we rely on the 2gall tank as I dont like the idea of 40Kgs of water flying around a half empty tank. Don't see the point of lugging 80kgs of water 200miles to a spot next to a tap??

having broken down on a saturday afternoon in france with 4 aboard, i was very happy that i always keep topped up and had plenty to last till the shops opened on monday.smug or what?

Fill up before you go. Don't bother with campsites if you can help it, they are a huge waste of money.

The benefit of having a motorhome is that you can park up and sleep almost in any locale with a bit of knowledge of the type of places that are suitable.

Well done. I agree. Always think ahead, you don't know what is coming.

thats right, dont bother with campsites, thats why you have a motorhome, once you've got the first few wild camping nights under your belt you'll get to to the point where you will do anything to avaiod campsites..
fill up with water, make sure you've got gas and away you go!!!

We have breakdown cover. Never used it in France but I a guessing the garage would let us have a couple of gallons of water if they could not fix us. Carry less weight and less chance of breakdown.

Hi Firefox,

I agree the big sites are a ripoff. £40.00 for a bit of grass to park on for a night but some of the little country 5 van sites that charge a fiver, you get water, sewage, electric and maybe a shower. Got to be a bargain when you have to pay a fiver to park in some towns. When they are small farms and the like its nice to provide them with a bit of extra income.

MT, I am with you on this one. I fill up 48 litres at home in the Spanish bottles and use these to get back to Spain. I dump the old ones as I buy new. By the time I head back home I have a new set of bottles which I refill when I go back the following year. Tank water is for washing and showering, nothing else.
