Finding LPG/AUTOGAS STATIONS

I've discovered the hard way that finding petrol stations where you can get auto gas can be very fraught. You find one on various apps but when you get to the petrol station there is nothing remotely like Autogas available.

Here is one way that has worked for us ...

Just launch the Google travel app and search for petrol stations and then when the list comes up simply choose a suitable one and click on the link.
It will show a blurry photo and other information.
Click on the photo and it will sharpen up.
You should now be in Street view and you can look around the garage.
You can nearly always zoom in on the displayed prices and if you see auto gas or LPG or PGL , if you are in different country - you can be fairly sure it will be available. The Google app will also offer the phone number of the petrol station so you can always ring them.

Experience is a good school but the fees are high

Well done, Good idea !.
I have used just normal street view up to now, But you have to know where the Garage is first lol.

I use All the Aires books and no matter what country except the UK it lists and gives descriptions of all LPG stations.

number 65 at Lairg in scotland is non existent as far as i could find after 3 hours driving round and talking to locals
65 is the price - 65p/litre. Did you phone the supplied number? It says 'by appointment, recommended to phone one day in advance". Seems to be at a place called "Country Images" just off the A839.

Looking at the website the notes say refills are by appointment only and the phone number is listed. It appears that the facility is on private premises rather than a garage.

The number 65 is the last reported price per litre ...

i phoned the number several times and no one ever returned my calls - the local postman knew nothing about such a service.

What is the worst that can happen if myLPG is a fraction out of date? Just go on to the next one. No difference to finding a toilet closed or a tap that is closed for the winter or even a wild camping spot that is either full of early bird or which has sprouted overheight barriers and No camping signs.
But do update the database while you are there please.

Good idea about Street view. We've noticed a couple of places where the LPG pump would have been difficult to access depending on which side your fill point is.
For example, the garage across the road from the Aire at Beaune sells LPG but the pump is away from the others and at a tight angle, with not much room to manoeuvre.

Many of the LPG databases are well out of date, in Harrogate for instance they show 5 sites but there NONE
The nearest is Morrisons at Boroughbridge (adjacent to A1m) and real good access.

Lpg

Quire so, we have found quite a few outdated entries in all of these sources. You'd have to scan a lot of Google images before finding a station with LPG, but it sounds a good way of checking an entry from one of the databases before going there.

I have used Streetview to check out Garages for LPG and have built up a lot of them around the UK. I used the info on a couple of LPG sites as the basis for doing this. Quite a lot are out of date on the websites. I used Google Earth (not Google Maps) because the aerial views and the Streetviews were very recently done. If anyone else tries this method, check out the Date at the bottom of the screen to make sure it is recent. They are marked up as pushpins in Google Earth and I have changed the pin colour to make them stand out.

Try being Austria, the most convenient LPG for us is a 200km round trip, there is one slightly closer but it involves a 10 euro each way tunnel fare.

Using tons of the stuff because it's minus 15 all day (sun hit the van for 45 mins), looks like we'll be buying a stand alone canister from the campsite!

Auto has in Orkney

Hi,
On our way to Orkney and was wondering what the current position was on Orkney for filling up our gas ranks. The sites I tried suggested the stromness station no longer had gas .
Any recent info would we very welcome
Thanks
Martin

Pm Campervanannie or admin they can give you advice regarding lpg

I'm not clear if you have a petrol/LPG engine or if your enquiry is regarding cooking/heating fuel.

If you have a Gaslow refillable system, it might be an idea to get one of their external gas-connector hose and bottle adaptor kit.

This allows you to carry an exchange bottle and when parked up, you stuff gas up the filler point to run your appliances, with the bottle standing next to the vehicle.

These remove the pressure of seeking out LPG stops while in unfamiliar territory.

If you have a 3way fridge, this will operate off the engine while driving, gaslow external bottle for parkups, this is my SOP.

It does mean that you might end up with a collection of various incompatible bottle fixtures in the gas locker.

I've found myLPG pretty useless, but FillLPG seems to be quite a bit better. It does no harm to phone a station before driving a long way, though. And you can update the FillLPG databasewith the result.

Good Luck in phoning ahead if you are abroad, that might be a little challenging over the phone.
English language can be a little rare if most rural areas, unless it's a youngster manning the forecourt.
