Filling up with water

Anyone know of a list of places you can fill up camper with water? It's so easy in France - just pay 2 euros and you're away. Going to Kent tomorrow and need somewhere there

I recently had a thought on this matter. Although it is not exactly what you want, my windcreen washers ran out and as I was at supermarket it was just as easy to buy a "budget" bottle of water (no doubt out of a tap) and used that. At about 11p for 2 litres it could be a good stop gap.

Hi,
firstly, welcome to the site. Sorry I can't help with the water situation, but if all else fails try the local church yard. Always a tap on hand, and sure the residents won't mind.:D
Do you not want to keep your email address private? Could be open to abuse from outsiders. Think about it. I would change your Handle, or at least drop the bt-------.com.

Happy Camping:)

Why on earth would you need to pay for water? In years of wild camping, the only "payments" I have made were a couple of Dirham tip to a petrol station attendant in Morocco - and then only because he was a nice friendly bloke (that he was severely handicapped may have had a little to do with it) - and a donation in the box at a visitor info centre in the far north west of Australia where water is particularly scarce.

I must admit that the UK was quite a challenge but even then we needed fuel at least every three days. I always asked first and if there was no tap or they didn't cooperate, we just didn't buy any fuel.

Certainly no need to pay for it in France - and watching the grots shove their cassette spout right over those taps where you have to pay, they would be the last place I would get water.

Happy Camping:)

Probably to late now but there's a tap next to the slipway at Herne bay
just over the wall next to the steps.

no matter where in the UK you are you will find water in Public toilets, Garages and Cemeteries, you just need to carry a short length of hose and a 5 gallon can, or even watering can. If all else fails just knock on someones door, people will seldom refuse to help if they can.

I realise that posting this reply probably gives you the opportunity to let us all know how far & wide you have been - without resorting to buying water - but now you've massaged your ego, could you share this vast experiance with the original poster & answer her question?

It seems that you are ridiculing her : "just pay 2 euros and you're away."

"Why on earth would you need to pay for water? In years of wild camping, the only "payments" I have made (goes on to massage ego).

This offers no help what so ever to anyone reading this thread.

Thanks to WildMan above, who actually answers a perfectly honest question, by giving a few easy tips.

Add harbours to the list, Not always potable but I usually keep a 5 litre Tesco bottle for drinking water. Don't have a problem paying a small price for drinking water myself. Tea tastes cr@p with chlorine in it, whisky tastes cr@p with H20 in it, everyone to there own. Don't worry about it, you'll always get by, enjoy.

Canals and navigable rivers

Canals and navigable rivers are a good source of free water and Elsan points. Most public toilets are closing, just like the pubs and getting few and far between, try the A34 as a prime example

Hi
The park and ride at old Dover Rd Canterbury has a standpipe. You get 40 minutes reprive on the ticket. This gives people enough time to empty and fill up. As they have a mains drain as well.
Good luck

The Camping & Caravan Club do a motorhome service deal, you can pull in to most sites fill with water, empty loo, have a shower etc for £5. It may be an expensive last resort, or use a CL/CS for about £7 and stay the night (if you're a member), as other have said a cheap bottle of spring water for drinking and a tap on a forecourt for washing and flushing loo!

tend to look for petrol staitions, especially the big superarket ones, but we have been known to get water from the firestation!

Cant say that I have ever paid for it though!

If you're in the Staplehurst area on the A229, going through Knoxbridge towards Hastings you are welcome to knock on my door for water - you will see my MH in the driveway.

filling up with water

Hi we found that the end of one of those rubber shower thingys that you push onto a tap attached to a piece of hose with a cable tie works fine on a sink in public toilets if you carry an empty 20litre container you just pop it in and away you go.also in garage when you fill up they usually have air + water but it takes ages there isnt much pressure, the public loos are much quicker.also the tesco value 2 litre spring water we keep for drinking 12p a bottle
