Good afternoon - I always get (mostly! ;) ) sensible answers here so I always come back for more. I'm in a 2.5 Ducato factory conversion with 70K on the clock and it runs well, however I'm getting coil light warnings every time I start up and for about a week now I am getting the engine light all the time. Full service a month ago (was getting engine light now and again before that) and MOT two weeks ago, engine light has been on for about a week. Oil level is between the marks. The service people had a diagnostic machine but didn't solve the engine light. This morning it went into limp mode which has happened a couple times before over the years - easy to fix just turn off and on. I feel like if ever I was going to go an official Fiat service centre now is the time. Any thoughts. Are there places that are just as good diagnostically but cheaper than main dealer?

I don’t have Fiats so May be wrong but it sounds to me like they didn’t reset service limiter when they did the service

If you have a code reader you may be able to check/reset yourself depending which you have

As mentioned above please tell us the year of the vehicle. Is it an X244 or X250 (or later)?

Whereabouts in the country are you?

Have a look on the Fiat Forum

I don't think its the service reset if you have warning lights and limp mode. More likely to be one of the emission sensors sending a fault code. I'm afraid there is no easy cure without seeing what fault codes have been stored in the ECU. Doesn't necessarily need a Fiat main dealer, but you do need a garage that has the ability to read detailed Fiat fault codes, not just generic ones. Must be a Fiat specialist around where you are, someone is keeping all the white vans on the road. Best guess it is the mass airflow sensor.

I don't understand about the coil light. Diesels don't have a coil! Isn't it just the light that comes on when the glow plugs are in use? Now that its getting colder they are needed to get you going.

Generally I would avoid a main dealer but if you’re struggling to get a diagnosis then a visit to a fiat dealer may be required. Apart from having access to the specific diagnostic software for your vehicle they also can get support from Fiat if they are not sure what the problem is. For a DIY diagnostic approach you could try AlfaODB.
