spoke to a dealer today he said it only affects 2008 to 2010 6 speed models
does anyone know if this is correct ?
regards george

The dealer was telling lies.

Any Fiat based model with the new front (2007 - onwards) is affected. They have done a fix on the 2.3 multijet ones. Fiat are still maintaining that the 3.0 engine is fine when it is not.

If you go for one, insist on proof that the fix has been done on it (in writing) and get a good warranty that covers engine and gearbox. This is because there has been an issue with clutches and flywheels as well. Also bargain hard on price. Remember, he was telling you lies.;)

I deliberately went for an older model. 2002 - 2006 were pretty good, as they had ironed out any mechanical snags on those.

Better still, leave them well alone.

Remember if you are buying a new van the chassis cab can easily be over a year old. Check any van you are considering by using the VIN to check when it was manufactured & on the VOSA site what recalls if any apply to the vehicle.

Always make sure with a new vehicle that the warranty date is reset to the date of registration, the warranty starts the day the cab is delivered to the converter & unless the dealer puts the paperwork through you might find yourself getting into warranty claims as the garage has only the original date it was supplied to the converter.

Hi, If you have a problem with judder read my post = Kin eck !! You might be pleasantly surprised

If you decide to buy one, and there are a lot out there, be sure to get a test drive and find the steepest hill you can and reverse it up it. If there's a problem this will find it and the dealer can't deny it as he'll be sitting next to you!!!!

Ask your dealer if they are prepared to go as far as changing the gearbox, clutch, flywheel and engine mountings if it is required.

Also be aware that the same problem exists on Peugeot Boxers and Citroen Relays, same chassis cab, different badge and I think some Ford Transits, dependent on engine / gearbox installed, wether front or rear wheel drive.

The easy answer is :- don't buy one, or if you do, make sure its had all the problems sorted.

Better still, leave all Fiat / Peugeot / Citroen variants from 2007 to 2010 alone.

Fiat judder

Having driven Fiat vehicles all my life, and currently own an IH Tio R 2006 Fiat based model, I know that clutch/gearbox problems can arise with any make or year of their vehicles. I've had personal experience of this. They are notorious for transmission faults. My current mh is prone to a small judder on pulling off the driveway (or site) in the mornings. A few really good revs seem to help just before pulling away. The thing is, test driving a low mileage Ducato may not always reveal a problem, as the fault can develop later in the vehicle's life (once again this has happened to me personally). I thought long and hard before trusting another Fiat, and I've still got my fingers crossed!

I have a 2010 fiat based Dethleffs 3 litre and have no problem with reverse judder. The clutch is sharp, but a few revs and it`s a dream to drive:)

thank you all for your great advice
although it is an 07 reg its is the old cab shape so should be pre 07and not have the shudder, i will get the vin number tomorrow & check for recalls.
I feel a lot happier now was very worried before.
Thanks again George
