Fiat Ducato - strange indicator bulb behaviour

The dashboard warning light 'External Light Failure' came on and I found the offside rear indicator flashing weakly. This issue was intermittent.

I have just removed the offside rear light cluster (no easy task) and replaced the indicator bulb. Still flashing weakly, so I tried two more bulbs, all the same. Now on closer examination I can see some strange behaviour.

Indicate left, all nearside bulbs, front, door mirror and rear all working normally, nothing showing on the offside as it should be.

Indicate right, offside front and door mirror bulbs flashing normally. Offside rear bulb flashing weakly. Also the reversing bulbs, offside and nearside flashing weakly.

It's a 2009 panel van conversion, Adria Twin..

Any ideas?

Lots of votes for checking the earth - thanks.

Where do I start and how many earth points are there?

Cleaning the bulb socket terminals too might make it better, a little vaseline could help as well.

Yes, bad earth. 'Solved' by connecting the rear light board to the jump-start earth under the bonnet.

Now, how to fix it. Tracing the wiring loom will be difficult. Could spice a cable on the earth cable where it goes into the lighting board plug. Then need to find a good earth point for the other end. Being a van could it be part of the body? Plenty of places behind the rear light cluster.

Or is there a proper fix?

This must be a first for the group.
All members agreed on the probable fault.
OP tried the suggested fix, it worked and OP reported success.

Yeah but not good for 'traffic' on the forum.

I'd get probably 300 posts for similar - Barry could probably triple that! 😁
I am late again, I thought the same thing, perhaps UFO needs to use Linux instead of Windows 🤔

Yes, also impressive quick response. Thank you.

I spiced a new cable into the lighting earth cable and termintated this with a screw into one of the internal panels behind the lighting unit, earthed to van body. Now all ok.
