Fiat Cab Draughts.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to insulate the cab, a 2003 Fiat, from the cold ?
I seem to get cold air blasts from the doors, and the floor is cold to.
Thinking of some kind of insulation in the doors maybe ?
Regards,
Lee.

You originally posted this on the `winter covers` thread. If you look there, you willsee my reply.:)

Hi Lee,do you get a draft coming up through the seat belt slots in the door pillars whilst going along. My last van (an 04 plate)did this and I found a slot in the bottom of each door pillar behind the step underneath. The cure I did was remove the bottom door pillar covers both sides and undoing the seat belt reels to move out of the way.I then lightly packed the bottom with carrier bags(enough to cover the bottom and fill the hole).A quick trip to the hardware shop for a tin of expandable foam.(BEWARE THIS STICKS LIKE THE PROVERBIAL TO A BLANKET)Make sure the seat belt reels are well out of the way.Spray over the carrier bags and allow to set making sure you leave enough room for the seat belt reels to go back in.When set refit reels and covers-another draught stopped.

I also found this to be the biggest cause of draughts, and did much the same with insulation & tape. Extra carpet on the cab floor helped also.:)

Thanks for that guys, i have today been adding insulation behind the door trims so hope that will help.
Will have a look at the area your talking about and see what i can do with it.
Also going to try the extra carpet, got to be worth a go !
Thanks again,

Ours is a 2004 and my sisters is 2005 (Fiats), we both have blankets to cover up with when we are on the move!

But I agree it the doors that cause the draughts at night.

Yes the door well is cold, now should you block them:confused::confused: your choice:)
the van needs ventilation we all would agree with that.
My top roof vent is closed but has vent runners in.

i think draughts are a problem on most vans from the cab area .the thing is most if not all were built as comercial veihcles and the converters dont seem to spend a lot of time draughtproofing the cab area the only way i look at it is strip the front out and seal all the areas where you are liable to get draughts with sealer . the areas behind the plastic covers on door pillars are usualy open so use duct tape to cover the holes the expandaple foam is good but should you ever require a repar that involves welding instant fires

Hi, As well as draughtproofing the door pillars I leveled the cab area with the habitation area and carpeted, making it I think more cosy. It certainly seems to have made a difference.

Just got an earbashing off the wife, it seems that I should have dusted before taking a photo. If she has'nt managed to teach me after 40 years then I must be a lost cause.

Most Fiat cabs are like sitting in a wind tunnel in the winter, the best chap on here os Terry (T&S) he found over a dozen from doors to dash, to vent pipes that were adrift etc.
If he's about send him an email and he will tell you of ever draught he's found and cured!

Hi chaps,
Thanks for your info.

Nolly, Ive been thinking of doing the same in the cab. Yours looks very neat, apart from the dust that is, i didnt see it but my better half did and she said the same as your wife !! Are they trained to see stuff like this ?
Still, i think it looks great !

Nosha, Ive not been on this site for long and so im not sure how or where to contact this draught guru you speak of.
Im going round the cab looking for draughts like a mad man, pulling bits of it and checking behind them, and all the wife says is "Hope it will be ready for the weekend" !!
Helpfull.......

Thanks again guys.
Regards,
Lee.
