Fiat 2.8JTD Intermittent Fuel Injector Light

I have noticed for a month or so that the fuel injector light comes on occassionally. I read in the manual this happens and to carry on driving.

This morning it came on and came on several times very briefly.

I seems to happen when I am hardly touching the accelarator or going light on the accelarator( e.g engine braking in 4th @ 30 mph) but has occured in 2nd and 3rd gear. The engine noticeably loses power but it doesn't cut out / stall. But when I put the foot back on the accelarator it does response and the light does go out.

Its fine and dandy in 5th cruising. The van drives well and seems to be ok except for this issue?

I have had a look on fiat forum and other forums and it seems to cover a multitude of sins. Dodgy earth, bad connect, ecu, injectors.

I wonder has anybody else had this issue and more to the point is there a common denominator.

Hope its a cheap fix...stitch in time and all that.

As you say, it could be any number of things, you'll probably need to get a garage to read out the ECU fault code.

The second time we used our new 2.8 we had driven 7m, just going up the on slip at J18 of M1 and the light came on, I pulled onto hard shoulder, paniced, read the handbook (for the 1st time!) and came to same conclusion... why do they fit a warning light when the hand book says ignor it!?!

I started the engine, the light had gone out and the next time it came on was THREE years later!!

Just spent 2wks driving to Holland and back, going up the big hill coming out of Dover, when I looked in the mirrors and couldn't see behind me, then the light came on and I lost a bit of power. To cut a long story short, No:1 injector pipe had come loose and was spraying diesel on to a very hot exhaust!! Hence the smoke!

So for the first time ever the light was correct, low injector pressure.

So I wouldn't worry about it too much, as others have said there is a slim chance that there could be a fault code logged, but don't hold your breath!!

all these lights on the dash are to make it look pretty at night!:D
