I phoned the place where we bought our m/home from to get a quote for a double bike rack to be put on the back for us, just a double. They quoted 3 hours for fitting it, at £44:00 per hour, i find this a little bewildering as it's only gonna be held on by about 8 screw fittings. Gonna have to think about this and whether me and mi mate (beemer) can fit it by our selves.!

What ya recon, is it an easy(ish) job, or is there quote a fair price for the job.??

i did one, took me about an hour and i'm fast.it involved having to take off the door panels, drill through and make spreader plates to spread the load.one bolt came through in a blind corner so had to cut a hole with the disc cutter to enable getting a nut and spanner in.so not so easy and maybe not a bad price saying that its not rocket science sod paying for it

Depends on the structure it's going to be fitted to - Bolting through a steel tailgate is a doddle, whereas going through a composite wall with cupboards on the back is a pain in the bum and probably is three hours' worth. Is this a standard charge for any vehicle?

I would bite the bullet and let them do it. I had mine fitted by southcoastleisureservices took about 3 hours, brilliant job but I watched and I'm glad it wasn't me fitting it.

You pay for their experience.

its easy if fitting to metal rear doors, however if fitting to a factory built motorhome, you need to find out where the structural points for the bike racks are, most main dealers know where they are so they can fit them. once found its simple to measure, measure, measure, drill and bolt. place good spreaders then tighten, job done.

get it wrong and you could lose your rack, bikes and part of your rear wall.

When I fitted my rack I spent a long time locating hard points and checking where they would appear inside to make sure it was a tidy job, a 'professional' job on a similar van left the bolt heads in the middle of the bed headboard...
