Decided we wanted to fit a bike rack, found one someone was selling locally at a reasonable price but after phoning them to get details found out that they didn't have the mounting brackets. Looked on the Fiamma site for the cost of the top & bottom fixings, the price seems really high £40 - £70 depending on the model. Seems really high for what they are, seems more to deter you taking the rack off your old van to sell.
The cost of the second hand rack + the fittings worked out nearly the same price as a new one :scared:.
Trying to decide which model rack would be most suitable for my van (Adria Izola 687SPG)

If you give Darren, Matt or Jon a call, they will be able to advise you as to the correct rack. 01-580-883062 is the shop number.

Not having much luck getting sorted with a bike rack, found that they are supplied with a standard length rail 128cms, I have electric bikes with a wheel base of around 123 cms so not much room left. They do make longer rails (140cms) but you have to buy these as accessories at about 32 quid each. It seems you can't specify longer rails when buying a rack you have to buy the rack with standard rails which I know will not be suitable then purchase the longer rails. It means that I would have to fork out another £64 on top of the price for an extra 24 cms (2x12) £2.66 a cm or about £6.77 an inch in old money.:mad2:

Haven't had any luck in finding which is the most suitable rack for my particular van, you would think that there would be more info on the Fiamma site such as which is the most suitable rack for your van.

I took my Fiamma bike rack off the Hymer when we we went to Norway recently to decrease the weight so we could carry more food stuffs, etc. I could not believe how much the rack weighed, as much as our two bikes easily, it has a wind up and down facility to make it easier to load the bikes on it, it is designed to carry three bikes but we only ever carried two, so beware bike racks add significantly to your pay load , and then Electric Bikes WOW.

Thanks for the advice about watching the weight, I had the van weighed last week, I was loaded up pretty much as we would normally have in the van - motorbike - inflatable canoe & most of the heavier items. As the fresh water tank was quite low I loaded up 6x8 litre bottles (48 kg around half a tank) & added a bit of extra ballast in the rear (about 10 kgs). The MGW was 3600 but ok as I am plated at 3850 kgs, I have a max of 90 kgs spare at the rear & 250 kgs at the front. I have taken some of the crap we carry & never use & I can move some weight forward.
Bike rack is 5 - 8 kgs depending on model, electric bikes weigh 20 kgs each with the battery removed so the max weight of bikes + rack should be 48 kgs but because of the overhang I was allowing an extra 50% which is 60 kgs.

If you give Glenn or Ian a ring, what they dont know anout Fiamma Bike racks is not worth knowing.

01-580-883061 is the workshop direct line, theres also WildCampers discount as well.

Hi Peter, I will try tomorrow if I get chance. I did speak to Matt but it was before I had realised that I would have a problem with the length of the standard rails.

Hi,

I had the same trouble earlier this year, second hand one selling for £50 less than new, 200 miles away etc etc.

Bit the bullet and got a brand new one - Agent Fiamma here in Manchester ( just round the corner from me).

My Hymer already had the Fixings on so was dead easy - that said you get a new fixing kit in the pack, if it is of any use to you, you are more than welcome to it.

I will dig it out and take some pictures

Cheers
Matthew

That would be the cheapest option as they should fit.

Hi Matthew, would appreciate it if you have them & would pay you for them. Did manage to find somewhere that had the fixing kit for £30 still seems expensive for what they are.
I can't send you a PM but you can email me adria_yx@hotmail.co.uk

I also have another problem, found that the standard rails are a bit short for our bikes. They are electric bikes & a bit longer than normal bikes, Fiamma do make longer rails & they even have a premium rails one of which is the premium 'E' (saying it is for electric bikes) & it is longer than the standard 128cms. I tried a few places including yours Peter, & it seems you have to have the rack with standard rails & then purchase the other rails as accessories adding about another ninety quid to the price & then try to sell the 2 original rails. I would have expected that you could have the option of different rails & pay the difference in price.

I reckon I can make some sort of extension to the rail, it only needs about another 4", as most of the weight of the bikes is on the rear wheel I would extend the rail to support the front wheel.

Here is a picture of what i have - just send me your address to post them, I don't want any money, they are just sat in the draw.

I can't seem to find any fixing bolts, so i have either used them on something else or they didn't come with it- but I will check my tool box to see if they are in there - but a few bolts can be picked up no problem.

Best of luck finding the rack, they are expensive but worth it.

Cheers
Matthew
