Favourite places Eastern France

Instead of the usual South of France trip we are planning to take the tank from Calaise across the Northern part of France and down the eastern side . I am looking for people's favourite places to visit and aires or wild camping spots down the East side we may even cross over into the Fatherland or Switzerland

The Alsace is one of my favorite French regions.
Nice towns and villages: Strasbourg, Obernai, Sélestat, Ribeauvillé, Colmar...
Wine-villages: Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Sigolsheim ...
Nature, mountains and woods: don't miss the 'Route des Crêtes'. A most excelent walking area...
