Hi All,

I am spending this winter in the vanwhile i save the las tbit of money i need for a deposit on a flat in and around the southampton area as that is close to where i work. I have spend a couple of quiet nights up in Farley Mount country park car parks no trouble. But last night i can only assume it was the police helicopter kept circling right over where i was camped up here

Three times it came back to where i was in the space of an hour circling for about 15 mins at a time. No other activity seemed to be going on. I was cooking my tea at the time, but eventually after i'd eaten i decided to move on to my back up spot (found through this forum, thanks) as i didn't know what they were doing and if it was just an attempt to get me to move. Seemed unlikely but i didn't want to risk it. I have checked the website for the park and there dosn't appear to be any parking restrictions and the website says the park is open 24hours/day.
Does anyone know on here know something i don't or anyone else tried this spot? Its a handy spot and i would like to use it again but i'm reluctant to if i am going to get buzzed by the chopper again. If they wanted me to move surely sending a patrol car would have been way cheaper. Thanks.

I would think they were looking for something particular and it was just a coincidence.

I would go back, at the very least someone would knock your door and ask you to move on.

So I wouldn't worry.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. On two occasions though they were hovering really close to the ground only a couple of hundred meters away. I thought it was very strange. Sledge hammer and nut scenario if they were trying to get me to move. I probably will give it another go but not for a few evenings yet.

It could have been a simple " Night Exercise ", they need to train at night as well as during the day.

We live quite near where our Police Helicopter and Air Ambulance are based so we see it regular.

I am sure it was nothing to do with you, as you say a ground patrol would have bee easier/cheaper. We are used to choppers and things over us as we are so near army bases. I am sure they have better things to do than worry about a motorhome parked up for the night!

Hi
We live nearby and quite often at night we have helicopters flying around at low level. It is usually the military doing some training. If it was the police they would be looking for a missing person and not worried about a parked up motorhome.
Giv it another go and don't be put off.

Yeah i figure that during the week and whilst the temps are below freezing it should keep most of the unfriendlies away. For sure at the weekends in the summer it would be busy. Thanks for the replies guys.

Yes I would agree with David and others. It has a bit of a reputation for dogging, peepers, raves and numerous other nocturnal activities and so will attract the attention of the police.
