I have a question that you've possibly been asked a million times, and if your sick of being asked it please tell me where to stick it, but I'd like to know from someone that knows what their on about. How do native American's choose the names of there kids, like 'sitting bull' ? , always wondered but never know anyone that may know the answer to such a question

Simong, There are many ways that you can be named just as there is in any society. One common way is to see something within the child, eg: blue eyes or perhaps aloud cry would suggest the name, 'strong voice'. It is not always at birth that the name you carry is given. later in a child's life, a 'trait' may appear, like a certain type of laugh that seems to come from the heart, hence : my name, LaughingHeart. Sometimes a name is given because of something that is prominent at birth. Morning star, because the star was particularly bright at that time. There are many ways. If you were to ask me to suggest a name for you, now, then i would study you to see what was fitting, 'He who picks his nose' might be the outcome! "Dances with wolves' comes to mind. there are no fixed rules as such. each 'Nation' has it's own ways, but all are very much alike.
'RedCloud' was born at sunset, "SittingBull' was a chubby baby and may have looked a little like a bull when sitting! Not so hard really, just different! I shall name you: 'Drives with Tipi', because that is all I know.
I hope this illustrates things a little better for you. Paol.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I'm sure my wife could give me a few names lol.
