https://ibb.co/album/FqhPhK We did a trip to Scotland last year and I had always wanted to see the Falkirk wheel so we found our way there, it was all I was hoping to see great experience , fantastic engineering achievement, we had a boat trip ride on the wheel and along the canal and back down the wheel, loved it. We were parked in the road at the entrance to the wheel complex and intended to overnight there,as we had a good view of the wheel and a comfortable spot, But at the wheel we discovered the Kelpies were near by, we had not heard of the Kelpies before ,and there were 2 at the wheel,to whet our appetite, it was getting late in the day by now but we decided to go to the Kelpies as we were told we should see them by night, so off we went.
When we arrived at the Kelpies we found a good overnight spot in the car par at the entrance and there were a couple of other vans there too, so we thought OK this will do us, we went into the parkland and walked the Canal to the Kelpies seeing them illuminated was great we had a good wander round them even went inside them too, it started to drizzle so we made our way back to the van for the night, drank some of the strange light brown water that you buy in bottles in Scotland , it is called SCOTCH and is very nice hee hee. next day after a very good nights sleep we went back into Kelpie land and had another great wander round, the area is very well tended and great to be on the Canal there, Kelpies are apparently mythical creatures that can take any form and because the are on the Canal they have taken the form of horses that used to pull the Canal Boats along or so we were told, if in Scotland be sure to visit them and the Wheel , well worth it.

On my list of places to visit if we had been able to attend the Lochore meet earlier this year. ☹

Well worth a visit I had passed them many times on the motorway but I hadn’t realised just how magnificent they are until we got up close to them, and they really do need to be seen at night

We stopped there a couple of years back. We parked right outside the Wheel visitor centre as we are blue badge holders and have in mind that there was a small fee to overnight there and that that area was was locked at night but that suited us. There were toilets nearby and, again as i recall, there were showers - but I could be wrong about that). I'm an early riser and as I wandered round first thing I bumped into a little old man doing "security patrols".

We visited the Kelpies in the morning, if I'd have know that there was parking in that area we might have overnight there and seen them lit up at night.

Both right next to each other and definitely worth a detour if you find yourself anywhere near.

Edit:
Oh my how time flies! I've just been looking back at photos and it was April 2105! Ha ha, that'll be 2015
